Hi guys, i have a problem that i cant resolve with anything. the whole right side of my body and face is not developed properly, the left side of my neck is straighter and i have difficulty in turning my head to the right. I have right thoracic scoliosis. Mewing didnt help to improve my face asymmetry but made it worse because the left side of my face has developed even better and even the soft tissue seem to slide down towards the right side since there's less support for the tissue. Its not that severe but im afraid its going to get worse with time. Maybe some of u guys did have such problem and have some advice to give?

How sever is your scoliosis and were you ever given a cause for it?

it was indicated as kyphosis before but then developed into mild scoliosis. no, i weren't, the only thing i know its right thoratic, the doctor said it is very mild though. i think its postural..

Well that is great news. It's mild so its easy to address and functional so can be addressed. I think the first step is to visit a very qualified physiotherapist and have them examine your posture and movement. They can identify which muscles are contributing to your imbalance and teach you exercises that can help you fix it. If you are given the correct feedback and put the effort, in 6 months you can have the posture disorder resolved. As for your face you might be surprised that what you might observe as lack of development is nothing more than head rotation or flexion associated with the scoliosis and resolve it self with the prior.

There was a guy on lookism that got sunken cheekbones after 6 months of mewing. But he is not sure he mewed during sleep. Do you keep your teeth together during night too?

I find that my jaw drops down a bit when I sleep but the tongue is still on the roof of the mouth.

yes, i definitely mew during sleep, i wake up with my teeth together and my tongue firmly against the palate. but i think maybe i dont place my tongue evenly? i feel more pressure under my left eye. yesterday i looked at my palate more carefully and i noticed that left back molars form wider arch (picture attached). i think its connected to my posture, i have difficulty rotating my head to the right but even when i do so i tend to curve and lenghthen my neck. doing it with neck straight is unfomfortable and feels like the palate is narrower from the right

@madeira09 - This is similar to my experience. My left side is much narrower than my right, and I believe it has everything to do my scoliosis, kyphosis, and posture development. I'm currently going to a chiropractor who has really helped realign my hips, spine, and shoulders. He also is well versed in skull manipulation to aleviate headaches and TMJD, though he's not familiar with myofunctional therapy or NCR. I get fancy grandma orthotics this week, and then I'll be VERY interested in seeing the improvements to my posture, as in my case, nothing will untwist without adjusting the soles of my feet.

Even so, I have seen as much expansion in these 2 weeks of intense chiropractic adjustment (and 1 successful endonasal release session) as I have in 2 months. Now that I know how to properly measure with a caliper, I was able to confirm that I have definitely been expanding, even if it's only tiny. I'm seeing around .3mm from the last two weeks.

I'm also worried about stunted development on my left side, while my right improves, but I think when the rest of the body balances out, so will the rate of expansion in the skull on each side.

ALSO!!! My chiropractor felt my skull, and the back right of my head was very tender and sensitive, which makes sense if you follow the zig-zag pattern ending with the left side of my face being in such rough shape.

So if you can't get to an NCR specialist someone trained in ABC, I'd suggest a chiropractor who specializes in TMJD and migraines, and understands that scoliosis is a part of that.

And though my nose won't let me do endonasal release right now, he's begun to theragun my sutures like a jackhammer and then dry needle. It was about 1/3 the sensation of the endonasal release, but I'll take it over nothing! When I mew today, I definitely feel an increase in tingling on my left side compared to my right, so I'm hoping it's catching up.

How long have you been mewing for?
You need to chew more on the right side, because that will exercise the right side of the tongue and make it thicker. What position do you usually sleep in? (back, right side, left side)

@sclera Glad to hear you found such a good specialist! 3 mm expansion is great for 2 weeks! Im not sure if i can find someone this qualified i live in a very small town the med here sucks. If i wont find any then i will try to make it on my own, now at least i know whats going wrong with my posture.  Btw what kind of  face asymmetry do u have? For example my left nostril is a little bigger and left cheekbone is more pronounced.

@couda I've been mewing for around 1 year, yes, i have already started to chew on the right side just because i noticed how the right side of my face is underdeveloped comparing to the left. Im a side sleeper, both sides, sometimes i wake up on my back, so i think its a mix of all. I actually noticed waking up on my back with my head rotated to the left and never to the right.

Oh and one thing i forgot to mention: my left rib is flared a bit so it sticks out a little bit. i think its a mechanism of a body to compensate my upper scoliosis? i feel like the upper right side of my body lacks a motion range, for example if i sometimes need to get something from a high shelf its a lot easier for me to raise my left arm.

@madeira09 have a look to tmdocclusion.com . You have a cranial distortion, with the body that compensates for it with a scoliosis.

Scoliosis is a combination of side curving and rotation of the spine. This usually causes uneven shoulders, flared ribs, and twisted pelvic. This can manifest itself in arm length and strength difference.

cranial distortion? im really confused about what to do, i think i wont find any good specialist in my town i know i have to handle it on my own, do u think i cant benefit from mewing and general exercises for posture improvement? for example i started to work on strengthening my rhomboid muscles, also  i try to concentrate more on making movements i have difficulty at like keeping my head rotated to the right while keeping neck straight

@madeira09 -- only .3mm of expansion in 2 weeks, but it's something! Overall in four months, I've had around .6mm, but in that time, it's been a long haul in working on my posture, and working out my proper tongue placement. I hope it only accelerates from here.

Here's a description of what I look like -- My inner left corner of my eye is higher than my right inner corner, my left nostril is higher up and farther back than my right nostril. Though the nostrils are about the same size, the shape is different. Genes gave me a huge nose anyway, but the skull dystrophy has kind of exaggerated it. My left ramus is higher than my right, so I have an occlusional cant, which makes my mouth slanted. The left corner of my mouth is higher than my right, and my left nostril is actually pulling some of my left lip up a tiny bit. I have a wide face, and my chin is only slightly bigger than my philtrum. My forehead is sloped.

Despite that description, I like my basic features and their potential, and I'm liking my face even more as the months go on.

If there's no one in your area, that's a real shame. There are things you can do, but it helps to have a professional set you up in the beginning. I DO think you can benefit from mewing and general exercises, it just might take some trial and error, and take a bit longer to find a routine that works for you.

You might also want to look into the sphenoid stretches we mentioned in a previous thread, as that might help over time realign the skull. It's not much compared to endonasal release, but a little can go a long way.

@sclera

do u mean this thread? https://wholebodybreathing.com/community/community/main-forum/frequent-low-tension-facepulling-a-potentially-effective-new-technique-for-adjusting-the-skull-by-hand/

I still think this is a great result, it can be really hard to find proper tongue position especially in case of asymmetry, now i know it for sure. I hope everything will go even faster and easier for you. Hope for me as well 🙂 I have read the atricle on  tmdocclusion.com (thank you,@skin!) about scoliosis and realized that i always used to tilt my head a little to the left, it was my 'natural' head position but i didnt ask myself why its so. Now im gonna do everything opposite like tilt my head to the right instead and chew on my right side etc. Its a little sad that i wasted a year before realizing it, during that period of time i struggled to find my proper tongue position,i couldnt find out which side of my face is underdeveloped and how to place my tongue to correct my asymmetry so i switched from one tongue position to another.

@madeira09 - I'm really excited about the hand pulling thread! But I mean this one: https://wholebodybreathing.com/community/community/main-forum/another-way-to-adjust-the-sphenoid/#post-821

Try not to think of it as wasted time, as tough as that sounds. Now you know a lot more about your body that you didn't before, and you can take that information moving forward. I started mewing in August 2017, but didn't start working on my posture until December, and then didn't really understand correct tongue posture until around February.

The reason I still really recommend you find a good chiropractor or specialist, even if they're a 50 mile drive away and you only go for one session is because they can help align your body in a more proper position that you KNOW is better. You can try to remember how it is supposed to feel, so when your body reverts back, you know where to strive to when you start working on your own.

I had no idea my chest was supposed to be as open as it is now, until the chiropractor released my first rib. And now when I feel my chest tighten and my shoulders move forward, I take steps at home to open up again.
