Relationship to Whole Body Breathing
The Buteyko Method and Whole Body Breathing fit in perfectly with eachother, and in many ways Whole Body Breathing is a continuation of the work of Dr. Buteyko. We do not necessarily use the same methods; Whole Body Breathing aims for an even deeper and more wholistic, integrated approach. It is perhaps the sort of work Dr. Buteyko would be interested in and researching if alive today, and Buteyko Method teachers have also naturally extended into much of the ground the Whole Body Breathing covers. Dr Buteyko himself (according to a CIA report) even went into many of the esoteric aspects that Whole Body Breathing covers.
Whole Body Breathing can supplant a Buteyko practice or compliment it greatly.

Overview and History
Konstantin Buteyko theorized and made many confirmations that hyperventilation (too much breathing) and low cabon dioxide (CO2) in the blood were both interellated and also a root cause for many health issues.
Konstantin Buteyko observed ill patients and their breathing patterns to form his ideas. When he was diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) himself, he used reduced breathing to solve it. He was granted the patent 1068640 “The Method and Treatment of Hypocapnia” (reduced carbon dioxide in the blood) in 1983, backdated to 1962 which is when he first made his discoveries.
Multiple clinical trials and related clinical findings have substantially supported Butreyko’s ideas and methods.
The method was further popularized by people like Sasha Stalmatski and Patrick McKeown, among others. There are multiple schools of Buteyko Method offering classes and accreditation, Whole Body Breathing could even be loosely considered one.
