So I realized the reason I wasn't able to properly mew and swallow was the fact I wasn't using my right hand side back third of the tongue at all!
Hi, first time poster, been mewing for month and a half by now. These past couple of days I've been doing what I can only describe as physiotherapy on my tongue. After much playing around with my tongue in my mouth and attempting to swallow properly, I realized the right hand side of the back third of my tongue was further retracted into the throat than the left side. I could push it forwards only with quite a bit of pain, which is probably why it stayed back there. After some time of gently pushing through the pain, I got a sensation on my tongue which reminded me of when I took off my maxilary, outward facing braces over 10 years ago. I remembered how the braces had this bit of metal poking out of the right hand side which dug into my tongue, so I developed this way of chewing and swallowing food that only used the left hands side. This habit must have persisted without me noticing for 10 years! I can tell the right hand side is quite undeveloped when compared to the left hand side, the muscle is just not there.
I'm extremely happy to have realized this, as it's a massive breakthrough and something that can be easily fixed with just exercises. Pretty mad it was caused by the person supposed to fix my mouth...
Looking back, the main symptom of this problem was a constantly contracted shoulder, probably to somehow compensate for the lack of muscle and function. It's crazy how I had become so used to it I couldn't even notice it directly anymore
Anyone else had a similar experience?
