Female, low blood pressure, bruxism, raynauds (no chocolate for me) =? UARS?
I have a history of tongue tie, which was fixed 15 years ago as part of the Invisalign cosmetic procedure. Until a few months ago I didn’t know the significance. This post is about how it affected me, specifically about low blood pressure symptoms.
Dr Stephen Lin’s book “Dental Diet: The Surprising Link Between Your Teeth, Real Food, and Life-changing Natural Health” mentioned a group of symptoms that seemed to summarize my issues – giving me a possible diagnosis of UARS.
Things that I have that he listed:
- usually women, usually in their 20s
-digestive problems
-cold hands and feet; some people even have Raynaud’s phenomenon
-anxiety
-low blood pressure ((23 percent of people with UARS have low blood pressure)
-ADHD in children plus cognition /memory issues.
-sinus issues
-small jaws that didn’t support their airway
So I have a small jaw with a history of teeth pulled. Plus a lot of the other symptoms that research shows are associated with the small jaw. Circles under the eyes; being constantly fatigued / low energy; scalloped tongue; pointy chin, acid reflux, tummy sleeper when a child, high palatal arch with ‘m’ shape , deviated septum.
Self diagnosed with Raynaud’s ~20 years ago. Generally I try to eat the Raynaud’s diet. This means eliminating or cutting back certain foods. The top no-no foods are chocolate, caffeinated things, red wine and other alcohols. Next on the list are fermented foods like soy sauce, fish sauce, marmite. (FYI kombucha tea seems ok).The list is long. I notice when I eat them- achy joints, pins and needles, cold hurting fingers and toes, blue lips, small patches of white fungal growth on skin.
And this is happening because my airway is occasionally collapsing at night, maybe?!!! Poor me –that sounds scary. (Unlike the women that Dr Stephen Lin characterized, I’m a fairly heavy sleeper – most UARSers in his book described themselves as light sleepers. If this is going on, I don't know anything about it, though I did wake up recently dreaming that a baboon was sitting on my face. )
Complicating my oxygen / circulation issues is my kidneys, which can’t handle salt and maybe dairy very well. The blood tests, pee tests and sonogram came back fine, but since I get flank discomfort with too much salt I’m going to assume. As you may know, kidney issues also cause cold hands and feet, and this surely must play a part in the whole mess. I think I’ve had kidney issues all my life, since a child.
But this post is about low blood pressure symptoms, because the internet doesn’t talk a lot about low blood pressure and unless you faint a lot no one cares. But I know that there are some women who follow this forum – therefore there’s a greater chance of finding someone with symptoms like mine.
Here are possible low blood pressure symptoms. Does anyone else have similar symptoms?
I’m not really a chair person. Even when I was in the lower grades I would sit at my desk with my feet and buttocks stretched out in front of me so that my shoulders and head were lower in the chair. Or I would sit with a leg folded under me. Or with on leg crossed on top of the other and maybe even with the toe hooked back. I was the kid that kicked the seat in front of me on the airplane. Or, according to my mother, I wore my clothes out from wiggling so much. I might sit in a curled up position on the couch or sit cross-legged. It’s not that I feel pain. It’s not because of back problems.
And I smile too much. Really, I think that smiling too much might be part of the symptom of low blood pressure. If exercise and constriction stockings help your legs with low blood pressure, then perhaps exercising the face helps the face –smiling and clenching are both working the muscles, yes, and thereby fulfilling some sort of function or responding to some signals from the sympathetic nervous system?
I have a manual labor job and take warm baths to help get the dirt off. Did you know they mess with blood pressure? Sometimes I feel a bit weird when coming out of the bathtub.
My blood pressure when I’m standing in the Dr’s office it is 117 / 70 which is the normal range. Sitting, on the other hand, it something like 80 / 55 or 90 / 55. Pressure lower than 90 / 60 would be considered low.
Has anyone felt these symptoms?
Does anyone know any good websites or forums for low blood pressure?
Does anyone know what normal sitting blood pressure is supposed to be? Sitting vs standing vs lying down?
I’m 40 years old, with less options than many of you young people. I live in the United States and I’m a bit broke right now, due to bad money decisions. I can’t even order from bracesshop.
To finish this post on a positive note: I have wide spread toes. My cheeks are ok and I even have a bit of a hollow. I’ve practiced nightly lip seal since I was about 8 or 9 after someone complained that I snored. But I didn’t know about supporting the back 1/3 of palate, sadly, or I wouldn’t be here now. I like liver with onions. I’ve learned proper tongue position although I can’t seem to maintain.
IMW =32 mm.
