I've been mewing for over a month now and it's going really fast, which I'm pretty surprised by. My face is more devined, jaw and cheekbones especially have improved, and face seems in general more forward grown. My eyebrows sometimes seem to be a little too high and wide, which gives me a suprised/uptight look. Sometimes I give mewing a bit of a rest and dont' focus on it too much, I do it less, and then a day or two later my face seems more balanced and better looking.

Could this be, because some bones move fast than other bones in the face, and that they need time to catch up and balance out. Could there be some truth in this theory? Sometimes I really like the results and I start hard mewing then to speed it up, next day I wake up not liking it.

Are there in general just some awkward stages, and that I should just give it more time. Because I don't want my eyebrows become disproportionate high and wide, I'd like them as close to my eyes as possible.

I do have fixed retainers on my front and bottom 6 teeth, could it be that my face is only growing wider and not forward? Although it seems that it is going forward.

I know a lot of questions at once, thanks for reading and what do you think? I'd really like your opinion fellow mewers.

Also do the people around you notice the difference, I feel like in my case they do a little and I'm pretty concsious about it. How do you deal with this.

Regards, and thanks in advance.

I wanna correct some misconceptions. Your bones aren't being moved by your tongue (directly) and your teeth don't just slide through your alveolar bone. Moving a tooth through bone is not like moving a tooth through concrete. Think of what would happen if you tried to move a tooth through concrete, and you'll immediately see that bone is not like concrete -- otherwise, when you got braces, every tooth would leave a long empty tube of bone in its wake.

What happens in reality is that bone is constantly under renovation, and when you apply pressure to a tooth, one side the bone begins to dissolve and, miraculously, on the other side, the bone regrows. So your tooth floats through the bone like it's moving through sand, but the bone doesn't flow around the tooth, it's constantly being created and destroyed. But this process happens at a fixed rate -- that's why braces take forever to work. Bone takes time to remodel.

When you apply the tongue to the teeth it's the same thing. You're not pushing your bones around, you're applying pressure to them and allowing them to slowly remodel. I am willing to keep an open mind in general but we have to set realistic expectations around here and I can't believe you saw noticeable bone movement in a month, or even less likely, a day. If you think I'm mistaken, feel free to post pictures.

Now having said that, it's possible that in a month you saw soft tissue changes. Your tongue is a huge muscle and connected to all sorts of other things in your neck and head, and maybe the tightening or loosening of those muscles is causing the changes you're seeing.

I think it's important to remember this. Change takes several months to years of proper oral posture if it happens at all. It probably happens on a similar timescale to braces (years.)

Wow, you're the second person I've seen in the past few days mention in passing that they are getting results while wearing retainers on the front six--and there are so many people on here worried that it won't work! If you see those threads please pop in and share your experience.

Okay: Yes, my eyebrows were the first thing to remodel. In my case I was pleased about it as I now have a brow arch, which I never did before. And yes, awkward stages are experienced by a lot of people. The general advice is, hang with it and be patient.

It sounds by the rate of your growth that you are probably a pretty young person, like mid teens? So it makes sense both that you would change fast and that people would comment on it, since people often feel free to comment on the appearance of kids in a way they wouldn't do to adults. Here's the deal: you do not have to respond in detail to those comments. You can just shrug and say, I don't know, just growing, I guess! Or thanks, or whatever. You don't need to explain unless you want to.

Very little is known about forward growth while wearing retainers. If you can take some measurements and good photos, you might be one of the first to document how exactly it works. Go as slow as you need to, since you seem to be having the opposite problem to most folks, and try to snap a photo every month or two. If you're a minor you might want to trace your profile or black out your features, but any documentation you can offer would be a huge encouragement to other folks who are wondering if they need to throw away their retainers to get improvement. Nice work!

Check your vitamin D levels... Do a D2/D3 split analysis (you have to ask for this).  Please draw how your eyebrows are looking and how you want them to look.  I also had a very fast response to Mewing, though I'm in my late 30s.  I've got the eyebrow thing figured out, FYI, but surprised and angry are kind of different.  It could be that your eyelids are shortening.  I honestly cannot recommend this!

What is a d2/d3 split analysis? And what do you mean by cannot recommend this?

I'm actually 23, It's not that I get comments but I'm just wondering if people notice the changes, shouldn't be a think too worry too much about. Btw I'm kind of scared that my eyes would get too vertically narrow, since it reduces scleral show and mine are pretty narrow to begin with. It's weird and interesting that some mewing transformations the eyes don't get smaller and with some they do, some actually got bigger.
