My case: possible malocclusion? Will "mewing" improve my situation?

Hello there. I'm a 23 y/o guy, I have been trying to correct my tongue posture and chewing more for a couple months, I have discovered "mewing" in late September.

I always found it difficult to plaster my whole tongue on the roof of my mouth, because my palate feels too high and, although it maybe has widened, in the beginning it felt so narrow that my tongue hurt by pushing upwards against the edges of the teeth. This last phenomenon is not occurring anymore though, and my tongue fits a little better, so I suppose that the palate has actually widened a little. Anyway..

In the beginning, I didn't take pictures, because I wasn't thinking to track my progress , despite I was always willing to take the thing seriously.

I don't know if it is placebo effect, but maybe I can see a very slight change in my face, although I have no before pictures...

Obviously, other than tongue posture, I'm also looking into chewing and overall body posture.

The reason why I decided to post my pictures here is because just recently I found out what malocclusion means, and I suspect I could have a overjet, or class II malocclusion. I hope that by looking at my pictures you can help me judge if my case is bad or just fine like a normal person. Also, maybe someone with more experience can tell me if I can expect any improvement from long time mewing.

Here is an imgur album of various pictures

Forgive me for the bad pictures taken with the phone, I'll try to be more consistent next time, also sorry for the horrible  bathroom/pajamas/stubble combination.

Here is a picture of my latest dental scan (february) just so you can see the horrible mess that are my wisdom teeth haha.

More backstory: the scan was made after curing lots of cavities I had. Growing up I had braces to straighten my teeth.  Also very often I had stuffy nose and head colds, and unhealthy lifestyle, so I'm thinking that is the reason why I grew up as a mouth breather, bad posture and poor face development.

Actually I think your face is quite nice.  I'm no expert but maybe there is some malocclusion just on one side.  Mewing takes time.  You'll probably have results that occur in good time because you're still young.  I also grew up a mouth breather, poor posture, allergies, etc.  Mewing is great!  I never knew the tongue was supposed to go to the roof of the mouth. It was awkward  at first and very hard and sometimes my roof would get sore too.  It's taken quite awhile for me to get it down, plus you have to give your tongue time to develop strength in areas it's never been used before.    I also noticed that by breathing through the nose, I was not so vulnerable to colds and such.  And I can smell EVERYTHING now, sometimes that's good, other times there are smells I wish I didn't have too smell :-P.

In my situation, I had probably one of the worst forms of tongue-tie.  I had a frenectomy earlier this year (took TWO visits!).  Once it fully healed, Mewing became better and better!  I've got it down, I've been Mewing since Aug 2017.  I've seen so many changes.  Best of luck!

Also, looking at your dental scan, looks like you still have your wisdom teeth. I know you didn't ask this, but I'd thought I'd mention.   I'd keep all of them if I were you, but I'm no expert.

I had all of my removed and once teeth are extracted, I was (later) told the jaw bone will start to deteriorate in those areas.  After five years, I noticed my face was slowly dropping longer.  Not sure if there is a connection but in my case Mewing has really helped reverse the damage it seems that removing my wisdom teeth has caused.

Thank you for answering! Yes I plan on keeping the wisdom teeth, even though one of the lower ones is practically lying down like he's sleeping LOL but the dentist told me that as long as it doesn't hurt it's okay. My history with dentists has been a bit troublesome, but the actual seems to be trustworthy and he has treated me good so far. Never wanted to do any unnecessary extraction.

Maybe you are right regarding the one-sided malocclusion, I don't know if it can be seen from the photos but my face is quite asymmetrical, you can tell by looking at the nose, as one nostril is more upturned than the other. Also many other little things like the shape of the eyebrows, placement of the ear, and even "beard" growth (well, it'a not like I can grow a full one...). Also, my tongue fits better on the left side than the right.

I hope that some time from now I'll get an improvement, ever minor, and update these pictures to show the progress!
