I have been aware of Oral posture for 10 months, though am only know at the point where I feel I am applying sufficient lateral force to expand the upper dental arch. At first I though oh ok I can fit my whole tongue on my upper palate but didn't realise I was neglecting what I now call the "Tongue curl & lateral push", method which I have recently adopted. Since adopting this new method which focuses more so on jamming the posterior sides of the tongue against the posterior molars have I began to feel a braces type "pain", on all areas of my posterior molars (Upper and lower). This method focuses soley on building a mind muscle connection with the back sides of the tongue, using a "slide", method where you constantly slide the tongue back and forwards to get a groove going, you should feel the gummy part of the BACK teeth, I dont think it is negative for the teeth to touch the tongue minimally. Although I have been "sliding", the tongue to get a feel for its position I only do this once every few minutes to remind me to apply lateral force in the right areas. My first 10 months i was trying to keep this touching minimal but this is now a more intense approach using the tongue as an expansion device. I believe this tongue curl and push method may need to be used on those with insufficient palatal width (maybe under 38mm? not sure), after all this is my attempt at restructuring a face that shouldn't have been damaged in the first place. I will update If my IMW increases with this new tongue curl and push method.
Now here is where I am seeking advice from the community, I have had xrays done for my wisdom teeth and it seems I have 3 ( 1 is missing for unknown reasons) wisdom teeth which are all "moderatley impacted". I understand no one here is a medical expert though based on your own experiences or stories you have heard does extracting wisdom teeth impact the "fullness/attractiveness", of the face? I will attach an image of my xrays so you can comment your advice if you were in my situation. I am 21 years old and the roots of the wisdom teeth have not fully formed meaning they are still growing/forming, so my hope is with proper oral posture they may grow into a relatively decent position. I should add that I have seen a dentist and oral surgeon who say i should get them removed but it isnt urgent and they are not infected or causing issues at this point in time.
Well I do think wisdom teeth extractions do affect the length of the face but Dr John Mew in one of his videos said that this occurs only due to extractions PLUS bad tongue posture.
As a rule of thumb, Dr Mike Mew said in one of his videos that you shouldn't extract wisdom teeth unless they have provoked two major oral problems in a year. So I guess that's your answer.
