My nine year old son has started orthotropics with Dr. Yuliya Pinskaya in Indianapolis, Indiana. He inherited my high, narrow palate and large cranium. So far he has been wearing the palate expander and forward pull headgear.

Thank you for the response. He was not a thumb sucker. He was tongue tied though and his frenulum wasn't released until he was 3 years old. So he developed an inferior tongue resting posture during those first three years.
His expander is the biobloc stage 1 variety. I wish it were bonded, or TAD-assisted, as he does have quite a bit of buccal tipping. He only has one molar per side back there to push on. The deciduous ones have all fallen out and the other permanent ones haven't come in yet. He has a mandibular expander but it he hasn't started wearing it yet. We are waiting for some lower deciduous teeth to fall out.
Wow, all I can say is that you have a very lucky kid, to have his parents discover this and get the work while he is still so young. I think you are going to see incredible changes. I especially notice the amount of sclera visible under his iris--that is going to change a lot and even if he seems to feel well right now I think he is going to feel a LOT better when he is done!
Awesome parent way to go!
Thanks for that. I didn't know about Mahony. That's a good video. Unfortunately we're kind of locked in to the orthotropics course we've started up in Indianapolis.
Get your son to do these excercises everyday to retrain the proper swallowing patterns do it a lot in the mirror and he will see progress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcI8CvoFxfQ
do a lot of repetitions
Well we are in a holding pattern right now because we are waiting for a new maxillary appliance to arrive from the lab. So we aren't turning the expansion screw in his current appliance and we aren't wearing the headgear. He was complaining about not sleeping well, having trouble falling asleep, having trouble getting out of bed in the morning, so I let him try my CPAP one night. He felt like he slept a lot better with it. So I am making an appointment to try and get him a prescription for a CPAP.
@jbsims please for the love of god, whatever you do. Do NOT listen to this darkindigo guy
Well I think so. The upper expander has widen his upper jaw quite a bit. I think that is probably the easiest variable to change, simply because the suture there enables expansion. He is not turning his upper appliance anymore. He still turns his lower. We are waiting for the bottom to catch up. He gets new xrays Monday, I will try to remember to post them.
