Not a good thing
To get your mandible to come forward with mewing you would need to bring the maxilla forwards with tongue pressure, and the lower jaw would follow as its attached to the maxilla like a hinge. The average person has a maxilla that is positioned about 20mm too far back. Its very unlikely that you'll ever get anywhere near that much skeletal movement. However as you say most people consider you handsome, so does it really matter that you won't reach your potential? Absolutely everyone has recessed faces, just some more than others. You would need to have ideal posture from birth to grow to your potential, which in this day and age is unrealistic.
i feel the same, except that i have facial assymetry in addition to that and a lot of back, neck pain, difficult to breath in a proper head posture, always injurys when playing basketball etc. But it's not a reason to give up. The MSE plus facepulling can give you 5 to 8 mm of forward displacement of the maxilla plus expand your palate. The FAGGA appliance seems to not move the cheekbones but it can grow your maxilla enough so your mandible can move forward. Some ppls claim that cheekbones become more proeminent too but it takes more time, they say that growth can still occur even 2 years after treatement, i am quite skeptical about that but who knows. Here is a great blog: https://ronaldead.com/ In one of his posts he said that now, he is no longer physically limited to adopt a correct head posture by his jaw (he has a terrible head posture in his before photo and in his after his jaw comes more forward WITH A PROPER HEAD POSTURE.) Tongue posture will help you retain and even get some marginal gains in addition to that.
But your money, your prioritys. You can choose between smoking, partying and spending your money in alcohol for one year or getting an appliance like that, you can choose between buying a car or an appliance like that? which one is the most important to you? i perosnally have my answer to this question but ppls are different and can have different answers.
Thanks for the replies-
I had only recently turned 19, and I have heard Dr. Mew mention that the mandible, especially the ramus, continually grows until about the age of 25, so there is no reason to lose hope I suppose. I have seen some success with mandibular projection as with the somewhat popular case in the attached photo, where the photos show an excellent progression of subject's mandibular length after five and a half months.
Of course, I believe it was mentioned that the subject of the photos was 16. Since the growth rate of the facial bones declines in early adulthood, anybody have any nutritional or otherwise suggestions to optimize bone re-modelling?
It was in one of the older Orthotropics channel's videos. I cannot find it at the moment, but other sources have claimed similar things, stating that mandibular growth is about half as quick at 18-20 as it is at 16-20 or something along those lines.
No one is hopeless. All sorts of people get changes that positively affect their health and wellbeing.
Be very, very careful about using negative language like hopeless, desperate, ugly, doomed and so on. The state of your facial development does NOT determine whether or not you are likeable, loveable, will have personal or professional success, enjoy your life or anything like that. We can all see all the time, there are people around us with suboptimal development who are loved and happy. If you allow your narrative to develop around health and wellbeing rather than physical perfection, you'll be on your way.
You know, my issue is that folks work themselves up in a frenzy of despair that they will never be happy and will die a virgin because their face isn't properly developed, and that's not true.
While everyone tends to select partners who are about as attractive as ourselves, it is absolutely true that unattractive people both get laid and fall in love. In particular, women tend to be much more flexible than men in terms of what level of attractiveness they will accept. Most women actually prefer a man who is a little less attractive than they are.
There are many, many reasons that women pick a man other than his attractiveness. If your main goal is to score hot chicks then yes, being hot will help, but so will being funny, generous, smart, or a great coversationalist. So it's both sad and troubling when I see young men convinced that they will never have a relationship because they haven't reached their genetic potential, because it's just not the case, and the belief can cause a lot of pain.
Thanks for the input.
Allow me to clarify that I am adamant about improving my forward growth primarily to be pleased with my physical function and development, but beauty just so happens to also be a side effect of good health. However, craniofacial dystrophy is an issue that goes far deeper than one's looks.
