Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been mewing for about 2 months now. In this time I haven't observed any noticeable changes in my maxilla or inter-molar width, which I suspect is due to the back third of my tounge not making proper contact with my palate. I believe this is largely due to my lack of tounge space (my I.m.w is 34ish), causing my tounge to block my airway. I have seen frequent discussion of expansion devices such as ALF, but these appliances aren't available where I live (and I couldn't afford one anyway as I am still at school).
My question is this:
I have clear plastic retainers which I no longer use, if I heated these and bent them to a wider shape could this serve to expand my palate enough to mew properly, or is that a really bad idea?
@itsj0nny Hey thanks for the reply, yes that is originally what I assumed until I discovered a method of orthodontic straightening called 'Invisalign' which involves a series of these plastic moulds. Also the retainers seem to be made of a thermosetting plastic, so from what I understand they wouldn't change shape unless exposed to heat considerably higher than that of my mouth?
I think you could do it, but you would need a lot of precision not to get it wider than you can put it in your mouth or that it could present a danger for being too wide. Still, if you do not know what you're doing I suggest you to consult an expert.
