So this is my introductory thread. I discovered mewing around November and have been adopting proper tongue posture since then.

At the moment I am not sharing any personal pics since I have a very public job. However just know I intend to sell nothing so you can take what I say at face value or not. Frankly I don't really care whether anyone believes me since I think mewing should probably not be so mainstream due to it feeling like a trade secret haha.

Anyway. I have had a recessed midface since high school probably. I have exercise induced asthma and also have been a chronic mouth breather.

Around the time I was 20 I got orthodontics. I had a class 3 maloclussion so this meant my lower jaw jutted too far forward due to an underbite. The ortho extracted two lower bicuspids thus artificially making my mandible "smaller" to fit in my small upper palate. Then they used elastics to bring my tipped upper teeth back. This gave my profile a harmonious straight line from chin to nose tip. However now my mandible sit too far back leaving a double chin appearance and a narrow upper jaw which made me horsefaced. Especially when smiling.

I always knew other profiles seemed to make more sense. If a straight line was drawn from glabella to chin, their jaws were behind this line. Mine was ahead of it due to the narrowing of my lower arch (and upper) to sit my mandible back.

So my teeth were tipped back and now the mandible with a narrower arch sat too far back.

My dentist told me it is because I have prognathism. Technically this isn't true. It is entirely possible to have prognathism and still have your chin and your glabella sit farther out than your teeth. The way my teeth tipped back actually gave me a combo of retrognathism and a narrow lower arch which sits too far back.

Enter mewing.

Since November I have focused on just outer expansion. I have expanded to 42mm inter molar width. At first i just suctioned my tongue to the roof. It wasn't big enough to fit all around so it just went into the middle palate and before the rugae. As my palate has expanded more room has been created and tongue can almost fully fit inside my palate. Prior to this expansion I would try bringing it forward but it would lose contact of the back of the tongue so I had to stop before the rugae. Also the tongue would fit asymmetrically which now isn't the case (the tongue used to fill the right side way more).

At the moment my middle incisors sit 45 mm away from my nose tip. Average adult male length is 37 to 42 mm so I have a bit more to go. Sliiiiight dorsal hump only I notice.

My goals with mewing are:

Reduce lip pout

Make profile flatter

Reduce gonial angle

Increase undereye support

Move upper lip forward

Tip incisors out a bit to allow mandible more room to jut

Get rid of my deep bite

Remove smile cant

Improve lower third prominence

So, so far I have really improved by ratios. My lower third is longest third. It used to be slightly shorter than upper and middle but not by much. My lip pout has decreased a lot. My face width up height ratio has increased as my face has gotten more flanged. My profile has become more concave in the lips.

I used up have to wear a beard to hide my infantile lower third but now I can be clean shaven with confidence (and get complimented on it by women). My face has lost a lot of its horsey and long appearance. My chin has come forward thus reducing the lip pout.

My maxilla is still down swung so my goal is to get rid of this. My bite is still deep and my smile canted. However I still celebrate my small victories like getting most of my tongue inside my palate yesterday.

My posture has improved so much and people have said i have great posture. But my face has given me so much more confidence.

I highly recommend mewing/proper oral posture. It definitely has made a huge difference in just 4 months. Now that my tongue covers more of my palate I can't wait for phase 2 results.

Congratulations!!

This is such an encouraging post. Have you had to take any pains/efforts at night to keep your posture where it is? So how do you take your measurements? Is there a special ruler?

Also, I'd love to hear more about your routine and progress.

Keep it up!!

Do you have any tips or tricks on mewing correctly? How do you assume the proper mewing position?

No pains. But at night I may wake up and replace my tongue back to its position if it falls. The way I sleep makes it so gravity assists since I have worked my way down to 1 flatter pillow.

I measure with a ruler. I don't have any professional tools nor am I being monitored. Right now it just me and my tongue and proper posture.

It is a conscious effort 24/7. But what I do is i suction my tongue to my palate. I then slide it forward to go beneath the rugae

If I feel my tongue lose contact I suction hold more.

I open my mouth periodically around mirrors to see if it is in the proper position.
