Myobraces are so painful

I just bought some offbrand myobraces from amazon, used them for couple hours in the morning, but when it was time to sleep I just couldn't bring myself to wear them, the pain was so strong it wouldn't let me sleep. I tried again the next day thinking maybe I got used to it, but there was no success.

Now I can only wear them when I'm awake, and I can only ber the pain for 2 hours then I need to take them off.

Does anyone have a similar experience? I would be grateful for any tips.

Usually tooth borne appliances are custom fitted to the patient's mouth. If your occlusion deviates too much from the standard occlusion which the different versions of myobraces are designed for, the resulting forces will be too great, which means that the appliance can possibly damage the roots of your teeth.

I don't think I have a very weird occlusion, the only problem I got is that I have a crossbite on the left side molars, but from the front it looks normal, and the pain that I feel wearing myobraces comes form the front gums and teeth.

My IMW is around 37-39 mm. If you want to, you can check the images, but they're a bit gross (it's and old picture):

But let's assume the myobrace I have doesn't fit me, how do I get a custom made one?

Thanks for answering.

Well there are appliances such as DNA and ALF which are tailored to the patient's unique occlusion, but they are significantly more expensive. One thing you could do at home is to modify the myobrace by shaving off the offending areas a bit in order to make them looser.

Good off brand myobraces have three grades of stiffness. You have a crooked arch and should be using the soft one first for a good while until the arches straightens a fair bit. Sounds like you jumped to a half stiff or a stiff brace.

@bentspoon

I am using the first stage, the softest one.

I think @progress is right, so I'll try shaving it.

@youssef-el-kaisi I have just started with my myobrace. My dentist advised me to just wear it 1-2 hours during the day for a couple of weeks and not to wear it at night until you are used to it.

@humphuz Hi! It sounds like you're doing myobrace therapy with a dentist, is that correct? Can I ask how much it's costing you. I am thinking about seeking a dentists help using the name brand myobrace, as I'm nervous about using a knock off on my own. However, I don't want to pay too much for the treatment as I know the results will not be super drastic and I'll probs need additional orthodontic work to expand further in the future. Thanks!

@marp96 I am doing it through a orthodontist and have paid £700 (GBP) for the full course of Myobrace (3 different devices). I am also doing other orthodontic work and the myobrace is supporting the overall treatment.

If I wasn't doing the orthodontic work I probably would have just done standard myofunctional therapy to improve tongue posture, swallow etc. I'm not sure what an adult would hope to achieve just using the myobrace on its own.

@marp96 I got a quote for $5000 for the myobrace with a dentist. That would include myofunctional therapy throughout the treatment. For me, it would be with the TMD myobrace.

@blackbear

Are you suggesting I do some DIY appliance? I've been thinking of it, but I don't even know what the risks are... How would I even put a wire there? with dental paste?
