Is... this not what we're looking for? Why did it take me so much searching to find this?

The study says that we can pull the maxilla forward in adults. Someone please explain to me what it going on and why no dentist or orthodontist is offering to fix my underbite with this and only advocate for surgery?

Does mew know about this study? They only wore it for 7 months on average, and during the night. Meaning 24/7 wear should take 3-4 months at max to fix. Does nobody talk about this because they just assume adults aren't willing to wear the headgear?

I'm confused as heck. I never thought my google searches would pop up a study like this, and now I have no idea what to do with this information

Also this is old! It's a 2010 study! Why no followup?

After this there's the 2014 case of a 19 year old having her maxilla moved forward with the tongue (they put a tongue thrust thing to catch the force) and elastics

So it's all possible? It's all been done? Am I taking crazy pills!?

Mike Mew is working on this  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE1EWUMbQ8U

He's 'chucked away' and started again on some facemask designs due to issues

getting all the forces acting in the right direction(s).

It would disrupt a profitable industry

Gosh — they must’ve just forgotten, i guess /s.

In jest: I thought you were more self-assured about this process based on your name. I’m saying your words about crazy pills and just the whole tone of the post/exasperation contradicts your name so I was surprised. When I joined this forum and read posts authored by “mewingworks” I thought ‘aw yeeee. This is the place to be with the experts!’ This guy knows mewing WORKS. hell yeah.)
i like your username.)

Why would people not know about this study?

At the start of the new year, Mike Mew released a video in which he talks about being targeted by the orthodontics community in 2017 about 2017 being a difficult year, but that it was motivating him to work harder and harder.  Paraphrasing him he said that the way to know he is on the right track is by seeing all the blowback from everyone else. So yes, going off of his words there does seem to be resistance.

Critics of society have said it has been established, “joked about” that the last thing the medical industry wants is healthy individuals because their whole business model is built on needing customers. Is this different?

In all seriousness:

An orthotropics practitioner told me most adults aren’t committed to the process because, yes, the headgear. Wearing it all the time, being seen in it, etc. is apparently seen as not worth it. Going to the office with headgear? No thanks. Taking your date home and popping in your expander before going to bed  — apparently not. Adults are seen as less committed due to either mindset or lifestyle. “Can’t teach an old dog new tricks” on a macro scale, supposedly.

Traditional dentists, even those that know about tongue posture have said to me that 22 hours a Day is necessary for change. The 7 hours a day you mention is just on the other side of the spectrum it is amazing. and similarly users on this forum have gotten results just from nighttime wear. So it seems that even the "modern" dentists and practitioners that they either don't know about the study, or have disregarded it.  Heck, the overpriced dentist I went to see in the upper-class side of town hadn't even heard of the word orthotropics as far as i could tell.

I don't believe that 24/7 wear would mean that results were achieved in 3-4 months; it is better to err on the side of caution and imagine the results are not linear to the amount of time worn.  Not quite a linear rate of (+y expansion / 1 hour.)  Let us not rush the treatment by any means, so it is wise to keep expectations that no matter how long you expand during each day that the process is slow enough that even 7 months isnt nearly long enough.
Our leader TGW has been working on this for 2 years and is by no means done.

it seems that this study has been disregarded for one reason or another. I assume it is intentional and systemic as opposed to... whatever would be more comforting to label it as. Or maybe the results were discredited if even a single subject relapsed due to lack of proper protocol.

I believe Mew is aware of this study because I seem to be under the impression that he or someone referenced a study which had similar findings.  I wanna say 'yes he's aware.' Do you doubt he knows this?

tangent: If you do -- why? Do you feel Mew isn't convinced it is worth taking on adult patients?
I assert that Mew has asserted his awareness that Orthotropics could turn into THE lucrative practice, absolutely most lucrative business ever if he could *prove* and confirm results in adult patients.  Historically, he chose to keep his clientelle young as the environment variables were more likely to ensure good results, reputation, and success.  He has also been recorded as saying he is very interested in getting adult patient trials going with a team of experts so that they can account for every possibility and get it down to precise understanding.  Yes I believe he is aware of this study.

Yes this works, Mewingworks.
