Taping mouth shut at night

I've been on here for several years now, in the beginning wasting my time thinking I had to know everything before starting, sporadically applying the mewing technique and not picking a starting point.

So I am starting from scratch.

First off, taping my mouth shut each night to train nose breathing (step one)
*will that also help train my lips to stay shut or is that only lip exercises?

I am also practicing the chin tuck every day to fix my neck posture and supporting muscles (step two)
*how long do I look worse in double chin purgatory? it's bad. real bad. i'm so glad to practice while we're wearing masks

I focus on the posterior of my tongue in contact with the roof of my mouth -which I can now breathe and do so some progress has been made (step 3)

Giant weaknesses: I admit I barely chew my food, and i swallow water in one gulp by throwing my head back. Should i move these up to priority?

Any pointers?

The best thing to be is consistent. If you can nose-breathe throughout the night and hold proper tongue posture at all times without getting tired, then you're set to start applying additional pressure via the back third of the tongue, and chin tucks help with that. Mewing takes a long time.

@guerrilla Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate the idea of going in steps. Have you started chin tucking?

@aramisx

Yeah I chin tuck while mewing. The only problem I have with it is that my shoulder blades/arms hurt while doing it. But I think that's due to bad posture in general.
