You guys have been a great resource so far, due to hay fever allergy I've been a mouth breather since I was a kid but I have always been ignorant to the impact it can have on facial structure and general health. After reading the forum and articles I'm better versed in mewing and I try to breathe through my nose as much as possible.
I'm still struggling to mew correctly, having read the guides and forums I'm still not sure what exercises and tongue posture is correct in my case. Then there are also people that say mewing incorrectly ruined their teeth/jaw which kind of throws me off.
A few questions:
1) With my teeth slanted inwards I don't have the room to comfortably do the mewing suction tongue on roof of mouth, It's too crowded with my teeth to comfortably flatten the tongue. But If I do suction harder I can get it in there but with the vacuum in my mouth it feel my cheeks pulling on the outside of my teeth. It kind of feels like the pulling force is greater than the pushing force my tongue gives at this point. Doesn't this make the teeth slanted inwards issue worse?
2) The only way I can generate noticeable outwards pressure is when I press the tip of my tongue against the tip in front of the front ridge, but then I lose the suction and my tongue loses contact with my front ridge while touching the tip. I then can pressure the side row of the upper and under jaw outwards, the mid/back section of my tongue gets fatigued pretty fast. Is this a correct exercise?
3) How will mewing take care of the bottom row of my teeth? As you can see the front bottom row is getting too crowded (which makes flossing very unpractical too, making teeth stone unavoidable regardless of how I brush).
4) My cheek bones are non-existent causing my eyes to look very tired and having black circles around them. It can get really bad and people often assume that I'm angry, tired or sick making me not very approachable. If I re-align my teeth and tongue will this take care of itself? Are there any extra exercises for this?
5) Are there any dental appliances you guys recommend? Where do you stand on bracers?
To sum things up, I need some guidance , some tips and exercises would go a long way with me. I'd really like to know what situation I'm dealing with so I can find the correct approach. If I could make any meaningful changes and improve my smile, jaw and eyes it would mean a lot to me.
Thanks a lot in advance!

You want to reshape your palate.
Floss every day, regardless. Flossing can help to generate a little room.
Check vitamin D levels (requires blood work).
Get a (hopefully free) consult with an orthodontist in your area who has CBCT. Make sure they look at the nasal passages. They may not know how to read it and just have cool equipment. If you need a good referral for a consult, DM me. You may also take the .dicom file from CBCT and get it to your dentist. Orthos don't like to give it up, despite HIPAA. Are you in the U.S.? You'll have to have it read by someone who understands turbinates. If you have to, take the .dicom to a surgeon who reads this stuff.
Get a sleep study... have it read by a pulmonologist. Even an oximetry can be useful.
Do this quick test and let me know: open mouth super wide and bow head. Any foggy feeling in your head? If not, it means 1/2 things... your a mouth breather or your airway is awesome overall. If you feel nauseous, it means your airway behind mandible is likely your minimum cross-sectional area. Regardless, picking up a musical instrument like the saxophone can be beneficial here.
Judging by your palate, you likely have anxiety/obsessiveness/paranoia. I would ask if that's true, but don't want to embarrass anyone. To help with some nasal stuff, try pranayama. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyn2LiHgCPE&t=16s This vid goes a little slow on speed, but I like the compact info. Only do this prior to bed. If you notice in the morning that your top teeth are a little wider than your bottom teeth (bite is off)... then that means it could be working!!! If so... just do a little lower face pulling so that the bite sustains. To be honest... this is kind of a shot in the dark. The maxilla could just be reshaping and not affect the upper jaw. Pulling out the lower jaw side-to-side can be problematic if the upper is not expanded. This is really new stuff.. and not quite charted. I suspect it is growing the maxillary sutcher... which can be bad if you aren't maxillary deficient. So... that's something you want to be careful of. Growing your maxilla bigger may not entirely be bad... I would just be more apt to pair pranayama (if effective) with appliance therapy.
Speaking of appliance therapy...how is your pain tolerance? There may be a treatment that is a little more painful... potentially more beneficial and one that's slower. Both should drop a high palate. DIRECTION YOU WANT IS OUT!!!/DOWN with the palate!!! You want to widen it. Pushing up is no good. You have a nice tooth placement vertically, your bite is nicely together. At this point, don't push the ridge of your teeth out with the tongue. Appliances tend to flare teeth regardless.. So it's best to not flare them with your tongue... as this can lessen the overall effectiveness of appliances.
Be sure to exercise!!!!! You might as well do it outside, weather permitting. If someone asks what you want for your birthday, say a UVB/vitamin D monitor clip thing. Exercising in cold or dry air or overdoing it is not only uncomfortable, it can result in airway injury. Pay attention to your body. Exercise will increase efficiency of oxygen use.
Did you have a sippy cup for a long time as a kid? That is a huge risk factor. Also, probably best to throw out straws. Drinking in open cups (especially if water) is best. If you drink soda... I suspect that removing the straw from your mouth prior to swallow is good.
Were you breast fed? If so, how long?
It's unfortunate the people judge you as unapproachable. Do a trick many women do... you can buy a little under-eye concealer. This dark eye problem means poor sleep. Obviously, best to fix underlying problem... but for dealing with the social fall-out of circles, a little grocery store concealer may help. You'll want to be dedicated on this or someone will ask if you didn't sleep well without it. You should only have to do this until you resolve the underlying problem. Also, how is your sleep? Side? Back? You may want a down pillow. Find something that you ADORE. The more you are in love with your pillow, usually the better it is for you. Avoid a flat pillow, as this flattens your head over time.
Walk with your mouth closed, ideally. Obviously, if you are walking alone... with groups it's no biggie! Don't overdo anything and take ALL with a HUGE grain of salt. Not a doctor. Consult with yours!!!
I'm so glad you took the time and effort to write this comprehensive response, cheers!
I currently live in The Netherlands so consulting a dentist should be free of charge. I'll definitely check if my dentist has a CBCT, but I wonder what it's for..
I did the bowing head test and I felt fine, no nausea.
How can you tell by my palate I have anxiety/obsessiveness/paranoia? not that I mind sharing, we're all strangers on the internet anyway. I could identify with the first two yes. It's not cripplingly bad but yeah it occupies the mind.
The video is very useful but I'm not quite sure what you're getting at in the end of the 3rd paragraph. I'm trying to make sure I understand. You want the pressure on the palate OUT/DOWN? What method should I keep on practicing? The tongue suction against the palate or pushing my tongue sideways? (as described in the first question)
My pain tolerance is fairly high. Do you recommend I got an appliance and let it do the work? (and make the denist/orthodontist make adjustment accordingly?)
To answer your remaining questions: I didn't really use a sippy cup very long as a kid, nor used straws a lot and I didn't get breastfeeding longer than other kids.
Again, thanks for taking the time! I'll definitely get in touch with a professional.
IGNORE DARK INDIGO: ALWAYS PUSHING THE CBCT SCAN, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS EXPOSURE TO RADIATION WITHOUT ANY PROVEN TREATMENT RESULT. HE OR THEY ALWAYS DOMINATE THIS SITE, AND MAY BE ORTHO INDUSTRY REPS.
We’ve got to get a head-to-head between you and Dr. Sean Carlson. I’d put some money on both of you and grab some 🍿.
All I’m saying is the newer equipment like PlanMecca and the brand, brand new I-Cat that gets all the updates of firmware ain’t as bad as your older pano equipment. I will predict this... the aligner / appliance wars are hardly worth fighting over while the scanning wars are going to fever pitch!! I think it would be wise for many stock investors to place money on Danaher’s upcoming IPO for their dental spin-off. This includes Damon and I-Cat and Danaher is throttling sales pre-IPO. Don’t believe it??? Call their sales line.
what the.. 😶

If you want a CBCT it'll show you your stuff above the palate. Some people have nose troubles that go on undiagnosed for years. Sometimes they know it, though, so if you think you may have a blockage and maybe need something done up there then it's up to you. It may not be entirely necessary. It's cool to see, though.
