Tongue posture gave me a jaw

I was a mouth breather as a child, and around the age of 16 (left picture) I learned about tongue posture and started putting it to use immediately. Now I'm about to turn 22 and my profile has changed quite a lot.

I'm not sure if I've had that "forward growth" described in some cases, but my jaw is definitely more prominent. The turkey neck is pretty much gone and the distinction between chin and neck is clearer.

The flat lightning in the before picture definitely makes things look even worse, but I still think the difference is visible.

(Neck looks odd because I'm turning my head quite a lot...)

Thanks for checking in and sharing your pics.

1. I notice that your neck definition is excellent -  has your weight changed  between the pics?

2. Would you be open to the idea of  taking another pic from similar angle as the first one, or choosing another 'before' pic? These shots are not comparable, although they do certainly give the impression of significant changes.

3. Have you been measuring your progress in any other way? Inter-molar width? Mew indicator line?

1. I've gained weight but also gotten taller. I still have facial fat, there's a crease next to my mouth that's visible in both pictures. I feel like my neck definition got better as my posture improved.

2. I had trouble finding a full profile picture, so I took screenshots from a clip of me. You can see that I'm quite skinny but still my neck looks full. I also had quite bad forward head posture. I'll keep looking for better pictures.

3. Unfortunately not, I never knew about those terms before coming here.

Thanks, it really looks like your gonial angle has changed a lot:

Do you have anything else to add regarding your technique? Is it all posterior third, anterior third, or both in balance? Do you suction, push, or both? Do you only keep the tongue in contact with palate or intentionally push against the palate?

Is the gonial angle that L shape?

In the beginning I had to use a little bit of suction, because I found it hard to raise the back part of my tongue with sheer willpower. Eventually I learned how to do it and I stopped using suction.

It's definitely the posterior that has given me the biggest change. I push it up just far back enough so that I can still breathe through my nose. If I go just a little further back, I become unable to breathe. That's where I keep it. If I relax fully, the "turkey neck" effect gets stronger. Though, nowhere near as much as before.

I don't exactly push, but I keep it firmly in place.

Hi, amazing change ! Besides mewing, have you done other things to foster your jaw expansion - better swallowing, tongue chewing, facepulling, supplementation, etc ?

Besides mewing, the only other thing I've done is working on my general body posture. I had horrible forward head posture. I could still give it some more work.

When I've been reading about swallowing it seems I have gotten it right from the start.

Okay, thanks. And btw, has anyone told you that you look different, or have you noticed increased attention from girls ?

A long time friend commented that I've started to look more masculine and grown up.

Haha, I feel like people take me a bit more seriously but it's not too drastic.

There's no way to confirm improvements based on the pics you posted. Anyone can show a jawline if he / she tilts his head all the way to one side. It happens to me too and my maxilla is recessed and I have a 34 mm palate. If I tilt my head all the way in left or right directions, I suddenly reveal a jawline, but that's just cope.

Stay in a neutral position with your head not being tilted and looking forward. Then take a picture from one if the side, at a 90% angel from the sagitall plane. Then you can asses how you really look.

(Something happened with the formatting of my post, trying to fix it)

I agree that turning the head makes the effect more drastic, but I'd like to show this photo I took before getting the (weird) haircut in the first photo. Same head turning, same lightning (same room actually) but a whole lot more turkey-necking going on. The jawline is more of a weak shadow than an actual "edge" of the jaw.

I don't think my maxilla has changed at all, so I'm not claiming that. My biggest change is the loss of the turkey neck by activating the root of my tongue, and the more distinct jawline from chewing and swallowing properly.
