Good Evening
I have a cavity on one of my wisdom teeth, this one being the only WT that hasn't totally erupted complicated so its not level with the rest of my teeth. My dentist recommends I get it extracted, along with the rest of my wisdom teeth. I believe that extractions is generally not the best route to take, but was wondering what you guys think. Should I not get any teeth extracted, just the one with the cavity (or get it filled instead?) Or should I extractions them all?
Thank you
I think you should get it filled, if you get it extracted you are taking a risk in changing your face for the worst
I support the idea that you shouldn't extract your wisdom teeth. I extracted mine and definitely my face changed for worse.
Is it upper or lower? I know that the upper ones effect eyes. If you pull them, then it creates some real estate that the eyes settle into. If you pull only one side on the top, then it can cause asymmetrical eyes. For the bottom, I don't know of any problems pulling them.
I thought you could keep 2... without pulling 4. Keep 2 top or 2 bottom, but I honestly haven't looked into that too much.
I personally would try to keep the top ones, unless I suffered from buggy eyes... then having a little room to sink back into would look nice.
I guess it goes without saying to try to take care of your teeth and not get cavities. A water pick may be helpful in "flossing" that far back. Those back teeth are more susceptible to cavities as they are hard to reach... and the lower ones are more susceptible because they have saliva on them more.
I would consider looking at airway with CBCT if you have symptoms of a smaller airway. If it is restricted behind the jaws then it may be good to pull them... doing so may over time create a bit more airway space...
Depending on your age... d-gainer treatment may help.... Dr. Derek Mahony knows about this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-rA_E9QUZQ Not sure the ages... may not work for someone with wisdom teeth... more likely, though, a little orthodontics like braces may help to create a bit of room. Chewing gum (with moderation... not all the time.. just a bit -don't overdo... has been shown to lengthen arches - at least in kids).

Also, don't stress too much about getting them pulled.. If you push on the space where they were with your fingers every now and again, it can shoot the eyes back up. It's a very careful thing to be done as it can shoot them too far up vertically.
