I am looking into all this non-conventional teeth and jaw remodeling stuff right now, and I've been on various forums, watched all of mike mew's videos, and have been mewing (swallowing, oral posture, and body posture when I can)
My chios mastia gum should come in the mail tomorrow, along with Thorne research vitamin K2, and vitamin D3, which I will be using along with calcium and magnesium to avoid any tooth fractures and create stronger teeth.
I was wondering about all of this expander business. My palate and bite is asymmetrical, and my dental arches as well. The right side is more straight back and forward, with the canine placed ahead of the lateral incisor and has buccal corridors when smiling. And the left side is more of an arch, with no buccal corridors when smiling, but minor-medium crowding along the front teeth.
This leads me to believe that I need palate expansion and to increase forward growth, in order for the teeth to have room and straighten out. I'm wondering if using the active expander and then the y expander, and after using a myobrace to further solidify oral posture and use while sleeping, to prevent a relapse of teeth as well as further the movement of the maxilla and palate.
Does this sound good, or could I use one or the other expander without going to the other. From what I've read the y expander puts more forward pressure on the palate/maxilla so that it has the potential to create more forward growth. Also how does one go about putting in one of these devices?
TLDR; 20yr old who wants to use a device to create more width and forward growth of the palate/maxillary structure, and is wondering what to use. And also am going to use a biobloc to further solidify oral posture and maintain and growth/changes to teeth and maxilla.
Thanks in advance!
Are you able to get your tongue (especially lower third) onto your palate? It seems like for long term growth, this is the best way to achieve proper symmetry and forward growth. Not only does it start the bone remodeling process, but it strengthens the tongue and facial musculature to allow this to become the default mode over time.
All these expanders seem like a sort of short cut approach, which should only be used in cases where proper tongue posture cannot be achieved. I'm by no means an expert so anyone feel free to chime in.
Tongue posture isn't doing much to change the crowding on the front of my teeth, and also it'd be better to have more symmetrical premolars and arches, to be able to distribute the force of the tongue more evenly and upswing the maxilla more effectively and symmetrically.
Also I believe that after you get the expansion, and retain it with proper oral posture, your facial bones will adapt. Shortcut or not, if effective, it would be better to get the same results sooner rather than later.
I'm also applying Mew's principals, but he doesn't have much for people with asymmetries, so I have to do my best with the information given to hope I can adapt it to my situation.
I'm sure if you keep to the proper oral posture religiously even after stopping the use of appliances, you'll be fine. The worry of course is when people have the appliances removed and simply continue to use their previous oral posture.
The people here are obviously not like your typical dental patients who don't know what's going on, so if you're meticulous it sounds like it should work for you.
You might need to replace the expander at least once during expansion as well since everything moved around
@yegor_l how did it go for you? I'm in a similar situation with asymmetries and TMJ and considering the myobrace and then palate expansion.
