So we already know the debate on hard mewing. The jaw muscles resting position might not be closed. When you fully open your mouth and let the muscles go, it resets to an open position as opposed to a closed one. This reddit thread has much more evidence on this. https://www.reddit.com/r/orthotropics/comments/anqytm/proof_that_teeth_should_not_touch/ I think that mewing while having your teeth close isn't only just incorrect but dangerous for people who do not know what they're doing unlike Mike Mew (Who knows everything that he's doing and saying) Complications may even come when you aren't hard mewing because of the nature of the expansion.

I saw his videos randomly at different points in time which got me to shut my mouth 6 months ago and actually start practicing proper tongue posture 3 months ago. From all of this I noticed some of my top right teeth tilt rightward and all of my bottom molars tilt inward. Instead of just closing my mouth I couldn't really control my muscles so I actually clenched for all those 6 months. What's worse I got facial asymmetry which I started picking a lot at and hurt my self giving me muscle spasms, scoliosis, cervical kyphosis, and a rotated right vertebrae all diagnosed by a chiropractor. This brought me to do a lot of personal research to learn about facial asymmetry and cervical dystonia. Obviously I must have hurt some muscles on my spine to make everything go as crazy as it did for me but after watching this video that mike mew made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s3muNxjK28 I think that I might have been using my jaw muscles the wrong way.

I have teeth that don't perfectly close into each other but over all always looked generally straight, Some were tilted, some slightly higher, but it's not big deal. Now I try closing my teeth for 6 months and Idk what they would have caused if I tried my best to do it while not clenching but I did notice changes before I actually started practicing tongue posture. Then Tongue posture came into the picture and I got many positive changes pretty fast which I am really happy about. On the negative side today, I have all these back problems and difficulty walking some times. I've been doing all sorts of cervical spine and back work outs/stretches (while being careful when chin tucking cause of cervical kyphosis) to try to perfect my posture. My posture also improved quite rapidly, when I get my neck muscles to calm down to an extent my teeth still look misaligned. The right side of my teeth seems higher than the left side (Despite skull tilting the same direction making my teeth look like a big Z shape, the top teeth definitely don't make a straight line with each other) A misaligned bite causing asymmetry was one of the first things I learned while asking for help in this situation and now I'm pretty convinced that maybe clenching on an imperfect bite PLUS unconsciously making my lower jaw compensate for mewing's random upper jaw expansion might have been exactly what did this to me. (It's also worth noting that it's also hard to fit your tongue fully at the top when the palate is too narrow.)

This does talk about my own story and I would transfer to Cases at a later point but I really feel like hard mewing or lower jaw compensation is something worth mentioning to be aware of as the cause of asymmetry when mewing. (Watch The video I linked to understand better) Mewing is definitely a very delicate behavior that can't actually be safely practiced by the general public who doesn't know what they're doing. I'll be 25 by the end of this year, hopefully another 6 months pass months and I can fix this. I'll be going to a orthodontist and physiatrst just in case next.

Something else I remember about my clenching pattern was that I had my jaw tucked all the way back for some reason. I think was worried of damaging my front teeth too much so that's another unaware mistake I might have done too.

I tried my best to fully relax my jaws left and right motion and now I'm in extreme pain. Pretty sure this must have been the cause of what gave me asymmetry. I never relaxed my jaw once ever since I started this. Muscles were always pulling it slightly left and biting at a weird angle. Now I stop it and it becomes incredibly painful... Where I wasn't feeling jaw pain at all before.

It makes sense what you say,  if teeth are in contact, then they will tilt while the mandible moves forward. Separating them seems better posture, although slight touching wouldnt harm.

Hey. I have also a pretty tense jaw. Just by closing my mouth (but having a slight gap between the teeth) and by having tongue plastered on the palate, I feel my masseters activate. Is it even possible to do mewing without having the jaw muscles activated?

The right side of my maxilla is a little more recessed than the left side. It's a little set back and down. I can see it on my tooth row aswell, the right side is lower than the left (showing more of the gums). It has been this way since before I've been mewing though.
Do you have the same kind of assymetry?

Why do you say that you got back and neck problems from mewing? How did that happen?

Hello, @Processive , @WILLIAM36563, @Youssef-El-Kaisi

Thank you for interacting with my post, I am extremely sorry to say that I think I was terribly wrong about not keeping teeth together and discovered that Mike Mew intended us to keep teeth together for the purpose if holding the upper jaw up while it expands because otherwise it might make the upper jaw expand downward... the bottom teeth are supposed to push the upper jaw in an over bite and at least correct it a little bit... Im updating you within a month from when I posted this... I'm terribly sorry for any inconvenience.
