Does anyone know why some expanders have parts that hit the molars while others do not?

Regardless of why some have it and some have not, I wonder which alternative would be better for avoiding molar tipping if the differance makes a differance (lol). My active plate expander has molar contact and I am feeling the preasure only on my teeth as far as I can tell.

@kilroy did you get a y plate off braces shop? I got one and am thinking of shaving off the parts that hit my molars since they are already tipped. Seeing expanders that don’t have molar contact make me think molar contact is not necessary. Please update me with how the expander goes

@mewem143 I got the regular active plate of braces shop since I wouldn't be doing any forward expansion anyway and I can shave of the acrylic from the front if I'd like to since that seems to be the main reason for people getting the Y-plate.

I am pretty much only feeling pressure on my molars and I am thinking about shaving down acrylic from the places that touches the molars, although I am hesitant since that equals more preassure on other places and I'm not sure how that would play out.

You can keep yourself updates on my expansion in the adult case discussion forum in which I have a topic called "Active plate expansion progress at 19 years old" if you are interested.
