Hi again. Ever since I began mewing ( just gone past a year and a half) I have had a problem with my lip seal/lip strength. I seem to gain excess saliva in my mouth and I can correctly swallow the majority of it, although, there is always some which seems to escape out of my mouth, which I think is due to my lip seal, and is always causing me to either lick my lips or wipe them. I also get it when drinking. I can successfully swallow all of the drink, until I release my lips from the bottle/glass where a slight amount seems to again escape my mouth onto my lips. I have been recommended a video on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4feUjLmwIsI at 2:22), where in the video, the lady demonstrates a way to build lip strength by using the lips to hold a card to workout and help make the lips more firm. Although, I am a bit cautious about doing this exercise as I think it may build up my mentalis muscle? I made a huge mistake last year; because of the slight gap in between my lips, I used my mentalis muscle to close the opening, and over time my chin receded to a state which made my facial appearance worse than what it was before I started mewing. Luckily, after a few months of not using the mentalis muscle, my chin began to reappear and look more normal again.
Would doing the exercise demonstrated in the video build up my mentalis muscle? Or are there any other ways to help lip strength or to stop the excess saliva/drink spilling out of my mouth?
Thanks appreciate your replies.
I found a great exercise to strengthen lips in this Japanese book.

How to improve your voice by "tongue power": voice professional teaches the right way to strengthen your tongue
It's simple. First, you stick your tongue out. Do not open your mouth. Then, shorten the width of your mouth by your lips. Shorten your mouth until your tongue looks like a pole. Use only lip muscle but not the tongue. Repeat this 10 times wherever you can.
I have been doing this exercise (and another one) for only 5 days and I already see my lips look better.
Wow Great Information! I'm a little confused, how to we shorten the length of the tongue while the mouth is closed? The tongue says inside of the mouth while the teeth are together?
Sorry for the confusion. I mean you stick out your tongue from your mouth and there's no gap between lip and tongue. Like this
In my myofunctional therapy I had to use a button (aprox. 2 cm wide) that had a cord attached through its holes and hold it with my lips while pulling the cord with my hand. I had to hold for a few seconds and then let go.
I forgot how many repetitions I had to do, but I think it was until the end of therapy, as we wanted to prevent my open bite from coming back.
EDIT: You should be able to swallow anyway with a cheesy smile, without letting the saliva/water drip out of your mouth. So it seems you need to correct your swallowing function.
