I have recently noticed that my chin looks very recessed and my face looks like it is growing downward much more than I felt it previously did, I went to look back on photos from about 3 years ago and to my surprise my chin and jaw look significantly more prominent. I have lost a lot of weight since then but I honestly don't think it's that. I wish I knew why this started to happen and what I started doing differently that caused this because I am very scared it will get worse and worse. It makes me feel very unattractive especially since it causes me to have neck fat. I want to get a chin implant or jaw surgery because I am completely unable to breath when I mew so it feels like that's not an option for me.
Is this all in my head?.
Hi @mewing4ever, I had responded to a previous thread you wrote, but I'm not sure if you saw it. I'm copying it here, as I still think it's relevant:
How is your body and neck posture? I can't quite tell from the photo.
When I first began, I had terrible posture. I still have a ways to go in getting it perfect, but the difference in my body and my breathing is big when I compare breathing slumped and head forward vs. breathing with my ears lined up with my shoulders as best I can, and my spine straight.
Proper oral posture can move your mandible forward simply by activating the right muscles. The lift in the posterior third of the tongue raises the hyoid bone, which can reduce that double chin / turkey neck, and makes the chin look farther forward than would be without the lift. I'm not saying you have this! But this was my own experience.
You might be surprised how the tiny little changes that happen with proper oral and body posture add up, even without skeletal change.
It's hard to tell recession from the front unless the lighting is the same in both pictures. From the front, a chin that is even slightly receding will have shadowing under the lip if there's overhead lighting - the lighting is too diffuse in your old picture to tell. Profile shots would be better.
