You hear a lot about pros/cons with many treatments. Let me give you the real truth. Never give a kid a removeable expander. It is a HUGE risk and endangerment. If lost, a child with a maxilla ripped apart will quickly lose width and even end up narrower than they began. Invisalign is targeting kids and it is a HUGE endangerment to these kids. Schwartz and DNA are HUGELY dangerous to kids. Nobody hardly at all is sharing this message. Don’t be a freakin’ dolt. PAY ATTENTION to me! I have 0 money to gain.

If you decide to take this treacherous route... always, always, always (did I mention always) have backups. Generally, I do hesitate to give what is considered as advice. This advise was hard won. Never, never, never go with a removeable without backups...the backups must be timely!

Bit of a noob here. I'm a 24 year old male about to purchase a removable expander.

Are you saying expanders need to be worn for life then? Or what's to stop this sharp palate regression you're warning about?

@voltaire From myofunctional & orthotropical perspective, the main purpose of a palate expander is to create sufficient room for tongue posture. In theory, were you to learn correct tongue posture straight after completing the palatal expansion, there should be no regression. In practice, small regression can take place. While the aim is not to wear the expander for the rest of your life, many have used their expander as a nighttime retainer for a few months after maxing out the expander, while spending the daytime practicing tongue posture.

Kids are different from adults.  Maxillas get stable around age 12 or so...  A removeable expander at your age is fine... but you will certainly have other things to look for in an expander.  Which expander you chose is super important.  How you modify or treat the expander is super important, too.  I am really in a super bad state right now.  Sorry I'm not much help.  Bad stuff went down today in personal life.
