Dangers of Smile Direct Club:

Canted arch

OSA

TMD

Depression and suicide

Literally, the treatment of Smile Direct Club is the only orthodontic treatment that I know of which increases suicide risk in patients.

In fact, if you look at the smiles that they want to capture money from fixing...

There are gaps on top and crowding on the bottom.  If you self-identify with their photos, AVOID Smile Direct Club.

Widening and bringing forward can open the airway.  Pushing the lower jaw back hurts the airway.  OSA/sleep disordered breathing and mental health are highly related.  You can technically push the chin back if you widen at the same time...so pushing the chin back isn’t necessarily great..but not necessarily bad.  However!!! you have to widen when doing so.  Smile Direct Club offers the fastest way I know of for orthodontic treatment that increases depression.

I have previously contacted them about this and nothing!  See how much they care???  If they care...maybe they’d start to take complaints seriously.  I told them to contact their legal.  Whatever...their R&D is a literal joke. They can continue to make jokes about bacon flavored aligners and Bluetooth aligners.  Maybe that will try and cheer those teens they are driving to depression while they focus on market share and suing dentists into silence.  Sheesh!!!  It’s always some geeked out group of nerds who puts caution into things!!  Where’s the FDA when China is selling fake tinted glasses to burn your corneas with from the eclipse!??  It’s only a bunch of naively trusting eclipse followers that are getting recalls issued.  You guys - we’re it!  There’s nobody else who gives a shit.

In the last 20 days, they changed their self-assessment from photos to drawings.  A smart move. Still overly gapped the top compared to the bottom on some.  Definitely a smart move for them.
