Solutions For Clenching?

I was told by the dentist yesterday that I clench my teeth a lot, which is the cause of the excruciating pain I've had for weeks, as well as the wear on the edges of my front teeth. I wouldn't doubt that the tense chewing muscles were caused or at least heavily aggravated by the tough gum chewing that I did sporadically for a few years. The dentist told me to wear a nightguard, which I'd like to avoid, since I remember people in this and similar communities saying that wearing one would mess with my resting postures. Has anyone fixed this issue in themselves? I restarted doing that myofascial release massage that I posted about months ago, though the chewing muscles were an area I always neglected.
