To chin-tuck or not to chin-tuck? What is correct posture?

I’ve been reading many of the intelligent findings here as I try to get my own mewing practice dialed in. Very recently, I began chin tucking as per the guidance of Dr Mew as well as many of you here who had results, especially @helmutstrebl high emphasis on them. I already feel some new sensations. It’s actually quite remarkable and I don’t think it’s placebo because family members pointed it out.

However I stumbled upon this video describing how the chin tuck may actually not be what we want to do, which is completely contradictory to all the above. I’m now left confused at how to reconcile all this info. What do you guys think?

One of the points in the video is that while people may tuck their chin back, they do so with a sternum that is rotated up with upper back arching. Would it make sense to chin tuck if I make sure to straighten out my sternum neutrally and elongate my upper back? I do already have this posture as a boxer, shoulders are forward slightly internally rotated and upper back is somewhat rounded/elongated. I can see that perhaps “stand up straight with shoulders back” might very well be incorrect, but does this invalidate chin tucking?

boxers have it because of muscle imbalance their front muscles are bigger than back because punching is mostly pushing with pecs swing with shoulders

they do not mostly use their backs

if you look at tribal people from africa (the hunter-gatherers) they do not have boxer posture

Respectfully that's just a causation statement between boxing mechanics and boxing posture. It doesn’t get at the core of the question which is what is ideal human posture? is it really “stand up with your shoulders back”?

How far back exactly? how far up/down? what does straight mean, how must the pelvis look? where must the diaphragm be in relation to the neck, sternum, and pelvis, etc.

This is the main question. If the guy in the video (and the scientists whose work he bases off of) is correct, it must change how we approach the matter of mewing, chin tucks, and proper growth.

and lol

my first two replies were without watching the video and i didnt know he was referring to the modern good posture (its not really good actually)

if you see some tribal people they have the posture thats actually optimal

seems that the slight boxer posture is actually right but in the video there was an extreme version of that posture

the modern day so called "good posture" is just bent over backwards

the best posture for your neck and face is to look down and i though it was opposite due to again the modern version of good posture

although the shoulder are not supposed to be too backwards or forwards ( again the modern good posture )

this is what i mean by modern good posture btw

whilst the good posture in actually healthy looking and good looking people is never this

infact it looks more like

the kyphosis one

when you said the boxer posture it is bad because it is more extreme

good posture is ufc fighters their posture is more balanced

and another thing that chin tucks are not bad because they are temporary and can improve if someone were to do it 24/7 they would see negative results

its like telling one to have a yoga pose as their main posture lol

and remember that your head should be tilted downwards and neck should be straight ofc but just a little forward still not as much as in the video or as boxers

whilst the shoulders should be a little forward and again not as much

TD;LR

the video is correct but shows bad examples (he actually said it though)

btw i think that the posture of men and women differs and the posture he showed applies to men (it is because they have different bone structures and muscles ratios of their bodies)

and you still have to mew ofc bcz the posture affects the tongue and changes the places where the more stronger forces of the tongue are applied which in turn affects the structure because of change in posture of tongue

(sorry for not watching the video and giving replies i actually feel dumb im sorry)

I see, makes complete sense. Thanks for writing that all out. What I have been wondering about - a bit of a tangent - is whether chin tucks can widen the jaw (when viewed from front) over time. I feel the gonion area ramming into my SCM muscles when I do it which makes me think something may be there. I also remember hemlutstrebl (salludon) widened his gonion area quite substantially via his consistent implementation of these techniques. Did anyone discuss this before? The gonion width + eversion is my biggest “issue"
