1) I have noticed that the left side of my face is a bit lower and that my left jawline is less wide/ defined compared to my right. Also, while mewing my tongue always hits the teeth on the left side of my mouth. Wondering if this has any correlation.

2) I previously had orthodontic treatment to align my teeth, however, I can't help but notice that my bottom row has started to relapse a bit forcing me to wear my bottom retainer last night. I read that the jaw muscles are supposed to keep the bottom row straight so I've been chewing gum as of late. How does mewing affect the bottom row of teeth and straighten it, as mine are not straightening/ instead relapsing? Also is it okay to wear my bottom retainer?

I can't answer the second question, but regarding the first one: Do you just have wisdom teeth on one side in the upper palate? This is the case for me, and I realized that may explain why mewing sometimes feel asymmetrical. I don't know if this is a problem however. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this. Otherwise, I don't think hitting your teeth more on the left side would lower it, since mewing is supposed to counteract that. Rather the opposite, if anything. But I am no expert, especially not on asymmetries.

By the way, where did you read about the jaw muscles keeping the lower teeth straight? Would like to read that myself, since I am trying to fixed my crooked suckers. ^_^
