Hello, I wonder if significant changes are possible just with mewing? until a couple of weeks ago I was making quite a few changes in my facial structure to an extent that even my father noticed it. Unfortunaly it has reached a point in which I am barely seeing any changes, I do notice more space in my palate which makes easier pushing with my tongue, but I feel stuck, there is no more pressure when I push and it feels too hard, almost immovable.

I was thinking about starting some sort of "face pulling" with a baseball bell, I used to do this before and it worked a bit, but due to my tongue being so weak my face came backwards and downwards again. Now that I have gained some tongue strenght do you guys think I should start with it again? I would post pictures but I have always felt very uncomfortable with my appearance, I am quite like the second pic (the woman with the vertical growth) just that I am a guy and my nose is longer.. I set myself apart from friends when I was 14 which was the age when my face started changing, I had sinusitis and asthma and could no longer breath well trough my nose so I started breathing trough my mouth and developed a very bad posture. Consequently my face changed quite a bit and now I look nothing like I used to.

I was always very popular with the girls before 14 and time passed and that started changing very quickly, they told me I have changed, I would asked, "in a good way or a bad way?" and they wouldn´t respond. Everytime I looked in the mirror I found myself upset with what was being reflected, my self-steem fell down until a point I didn´t want to go to school anymore, I started doing drugs and hanging out with the wrong people. Eventually I ended up dropping school and leaving all my old friends, I got a fake high school certificate and started looking for a job. In every single job I had eventually I would quit because I felt bad with how I looked.

I am 23 now, still have no friends, still unable to keep a job, and very unpleased with how I look and I am pretty much a hermit. Also wondering how long the ramification of cranial dystrophy extends, perhaps my lack of concentration is due to this? my "bipolar disorder"? my inability to speak fluently? my migraines? my insomnia? I mean, how much has this issue "ruined" my whole self? There is an inherent biological and psychological aspect to all of this, what about the conection between the pineal gland and pituatary gland somehow being "disrupted" by an incorrect positioning of the skull? You can only speculate about the repercussions.

My apologies for the long lecture, but I needed to tell someone about this, I am glad this forum exists and good luck to everyone doing this great work.

My thoughts also sometimes spiral about all of the potential ramifications of craniofacial dystrophy in my life, but I think our determination to make things better is more important than how bad they are currently. So many of the popular, attractive, successful people I knew in school seem like their lives and facial features have started to collapse. I don't remember where I first saw it, but I think of that picture you posted every time I catch myself with forward head posture. I think that mewing alone can be effective if you have enough palate space to adequately engage the posterior tongue, and you are dedicated to maintaining correct oral posture. It's encouraging that you've had progress in the past. If you feel like your progress has stalled or started to relapse, maybe some kind of external traction would help get things moving in the right direction again. You say that you tried facepulling with a "baseball bell." I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean a belt or helmet? Can you describe your setup in more detail? What do you attach the traction to in your mouth? I haven't tried facepulling yet myself, so maybe others with more experience can give you some advice.

I meant to say baseball belt, in the mouth I use a rubber piece with which I fold the part of the belt that goes into my mouth so I can bite it more easily, I know it sounds like a very vague and over-simple device but it was working for me very well, I vary the amount of pulling pressure in both possitions (the laying down on the floor and the one hanging from the door) and also with what teeth do I bite the piece of rubber. Also I must say I don´t really hang from the door, is more rather a matter of leveraging so I can generate more pulling force from above. I attached a picture that I took from a forum, a very toxic one by the way, I believe is called "sluthate".

Oh, I have another doubt, when I try to keep on pushing the tongue up I feel something is holding me back, could it be that I have a tongue tie? do you know of somebody who had significant improvements by having a frenectomy?

You can make changes with just the tongue. The plateaus are usually associated with corrections of symmetry. Changes are likely still happening, but in imperceivable ways,

you can make changes with just the tongue. In fact Mew has advocated for using just the tongue (refer to his Q/A video)

On that note You can, arguably lose progress while you are sleeping if your tongue doesn’t remain on the palate while asleep. for that reason, it has been generally agreed that an expander acting as a retainer at the minimum is ideal.

Facepulling May or may not accelerate progress — but I say keeping your expansion while you sleenis essential.

You touch on things that I avoid verbalizing with others. And your story is something I Relate to.

Those questions about ‘how far reaching are the implications to this?’ are often on on my mind as well. and I want to say, unfortunately, it is practically guaranteed that there have been far reaching implications to the CFD. Basically I say, yes, it has affected things.

I wanna say that I agree with Apollo in the sense that by educating oneself about CFD that we are creating a foundation for a great future.  There are plenty of fortunate individuals who never had CFD and therefore never had the personal investment to look into posture, lifestyle, exercise, nutrition. Etc etc that all mewers have spent hours educating themselves upon. Our emotional investment into this research is the thing that separates us.

Mew speaks of it in one of his videos  where he gives an example of the prettiest girl in your graduating class ends up looking a little worn down at the 10 year reunion whereas others that didn’t stand out before all of the sudden had an inexplicable glamour to them. Keep it up and you will be that person with the inexplicable transformation   .

you are ahead of the curve. Whatever that means to you, you are working the long game for the best version of yourself. Good for you.

Another perspective is that I am 25. and often I think “shit. It is tooo late. All of this is Fucking ruined. Game over man. Game over.” on my worse days. I don’t deny it.

And I did say to myself there’s no way I can undo the past damages from my life, or the things that have happened. Including the physical, mental, emotional damage that CFD has interrelated to. Whether it was sleep, cognitive development, emotional development etc etc.

But I am looking forward, as we must. Like Apollo says.

Well, anyways, A wiser, more well-travelled man two decades older than me.. after a bit of conversation and getting to know one another..  said to me /

told me that my 30s were going to be amazing. He didn’t say why, but he sorta had this ‘trust me on this’ vibe.

I doubted him when he said it, because I was thinking ‘ehh that’s probably not true.’ I didn’t believe.

If someone told you that would you doubt them as well? What does he know that I don’t know? maybe he can sense my intense personal investment in improving in ways that others do not even consider possible?

The fact is that the foundation of being a Mewer is the idea of reaching our potential.

Orthotropics isn’t just about chewing and mewing. Orthotropics also has concepts which affect so much more of daily life. The orthotropic mindset is a principled thing which has a transformative element to it.  It asks us to consider our whole life. It makes us consider how we stand, walk, think, and communicate with others. It asks us to be mindful of our food, our sleeping patterns, exercise. And more. It invites discipline and hard work.

For instance, I know there are many users here that have adopted a fitness-oriented mindset in conjunction with their mewing. Because of their mewing. The perspectives of people have shifted to a much more beneficial, healthy lifestyle.

This community emphasizes positive growth. And damn it man, we are gonnna reach that potential.

All of us.

Best wishes to you on your journey into the great work.

I've read about the belt facepulling strategy and thought that might be what you meant. I'm not sure how it compares to other techniques. There are videos online that can help you evaluate if you have a tongue tie. Gregory could tell you more about his frenectomy.

I did not read your entire post but will try to answer your main question from my experience.

According to a recent post by Dr. Mew the answer is yes. He posted a recent video about this topic and added the following comment "Anyone with 35 to 38mm will find it much easier but still very hard to make progressive improvements without any formal therapy".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6IcjRUdHDM

From personal experience I can attest to this. Before starting treatment, my inter-molar width was 34.5mm and now after 4 months of expansion I can posture my tongue far better. Prior to that it was very hard.

This makes one wonder how are some people posting online showing forward growth without any devices? My guess is that most of those cases come from people who start mewing with a 37-38mm inter-molar width in their upper dental arch, thus they are able to benefit from mewing and show results.

Hopefully that answers your question and on a side note, there is more to good looks than having good occlusion and fully developed jaws :)

I am not an expert, but I believe that your own will to search for changes is very much relevant in this kinda of success: if you really want it that hard you will succeed. Reading your story I think that you have a ton of will, but you are easily knocked down. And you must solve this to succeed, because I have already in mind what you will do if things stay this way: you'll attempt to solve this problem, and whenever you won't see improvements for a certain period (that should be normal), you'll drop out.

I'll tell you this:

First of all being good looking is not everything, at all. Life can be enjoyed in so many different ways... even if you are ugly.

Moreover, even if mewing, facepulling or other similar stuff won't satisfy you, there is always surgery. Vertical maxillary excess can be solved very quickly with that , and even other minor problems. What's wrong with that? You should work in order to have money for that, in case mewing and other stuff won't work. I don't think that a person like you, who dropped school for not being good looking anymore and quitting jobs for the same reason, would mind possible collateral effects of surgery, or the cost of it.

In other words: the problem is easily solveable. In a way or another. It is to be determined just which path will lead you to the solution.

Now reading my own post I can tell the story seems pretty grim, it is in fact true that I do not have friends nor am I able to be in a normal working environment, however, I am learning how to program in order to be able to work at home and I am making enough money to eat and exist from forex trading, I also have adopted a meditation routine which I take very seriously since 3 years ago, and have solve most of my psychological issues I had due to my cultural and childood programming (which everybody has).

Having said that, I do strongly believe that the repercussions of not looking like other human beings is of a higher magnitude as some of you guys here think, having money or personality would not work (completely) if you still look somehow different than others, is like if a chimpanzee with white hair would try to enter a group, would he be accepted? my guess would be no, he wouldn´t even be considered as a chimpanzee just like I think some people don´t even notice I am human. This sounds exagerated, but sometimes when I walk on the streets, some people are not even aware I am there, they bump into me, I often must get out of the way in order to not get push by them, or they get scared I was closed to them, like they do not "feel" another being is there.

About my mewing, I do feel considerably reduction on correct facial shape after I wake up, however, I am taking this very seriously so as soon as I am awake I start pushing really hard to try and compensate for the hours of absence of pressure, Also, I notice that by pushing with the sides of the tongue, directly up against the molars on each side (I take turns on each side) my palate has expanded significantly, is very hard because I never used my tongue in that way.

I am grateful to everyone who took the time to answer and I hope you are having great progress with your work.

Gregory, your answer was of most help in this time of stagnation, I consider myself a very pragmatic and realistic person, hopeless if you will. But sometimes I allow my mind to have the fantasy of seeing myself in my 30s with great facial shape, my sleep pattern fixed, being financially comfortable, having friends and being a normal human being you know?

I understand what you mean with users having others facets of their lives fixed due to mewing, I myself can see significant improvement in my meditations, I can breathe better and I can also reach deeper states of consciousness in less time I used to. I can concentrate when another person speaks and really listen, I can learn better, when I read information seems to get stored without much difficulty as before, I remember having to read the same chapthers of books to have the information really sink in, but now is almost effortless.

Although I am very present-moment oriented due to my meditation practice, indeed our present actions have future consequences, and just one change can open up a whole range of new probabilities these being positive or negative. I am sure mewing will change our lives in a possitive manner, hope you are doing well and keep working hard.

As one of the older birds on here (32 female) - I’ve been mewing for over a year, but I’ve found recently that focusing more on pushing forward better because my width is 31 or something dreadful. So as someone highly not advantaged by age, History (you can read my fun stories in Other posts!), and having serious CFD, guess whats cool? I’ve seen good changes and function. We’re going to age no matter what, and even if it’s ten years until I’m showing an obvious difference so be it! That’s okay. I notice my headaches are worse with mewing lately because my jaw and eyes are sore feeling, and this might be from the pushing, but that’s just the way it goes :) don’t give up, use your tongue where you can (the back didn’t work that great with how narrow I am) and if needed, Mike Mew is doing online consultations albeit their about 500$ and he encourges watching videos and learning before reaching out. Best of luck, keep your head up ;)
