Hello!
I want to talk about lighting and how mirrors and pictures have shown what I have to work on most in order to gain some much needed advice.
So both pictures are me. No makeup difference, no angle. Just broad daylight and different expression (the better one) and shitty bedroom lighting (the worse one)
some days I feel as though I’ve made progress and then I take a picture like the bedroom one and fall into discouragement (I know we all do this).
it highlights how my top teeth shove my bottom lips out. People tell me I have good lips but it’s because I hold them in a better shape than the slack picture I took.
I also see how the actual dome of my head is formed and my maxilla is too small to meet it, giving my cheeks a shapeless look and my face a malformed aspect.
My cheekbones need to widen dramatically under my eye to meet my temples.
I also have a lot of gums.
In most lights I do not think I look so awful (granted I am holding my lips up as a practice) but that picture is probably the truth.
What are the best tools to correct these things?
i have been hard mewing randomly throughout the day for several weeks and chewing more.
My arch is VERY high.
Mewing > chewing. Chewing will develop your masseters and maybe lengthen your ramus but will do nothing for your cheekbones or undereye area.
You actually look fine from the front, I'd find you quite attractive if I saw you on the street. Now I'd be interested to see your side profile. Also, something I've noticed with women is that they can get away with forward head posture much more than guys because of ya'lls long hair that hides how the back of your neck and head look when tilting your head upwards and forwards to compensate for the downward and back growth. I look generally better with forward head posture due to my mandible jutting out more, but the back of my neck and head look very... off.
Anyway, definitely work on tucking your chin and straightening the back of your head while mewing. You will probably look very stupid in the short term but I've found that it's vital for maintaining proper mouth posture, body posture, and overall balance.

Thanks! But the reason the second picture looks more attractive is because the light blends the fact that my maxilla doesn’t meet up with my temples as you’ll see better in the first pic.
My lips are weak and my smile can be Ned Schneebly-like if I don’t expand my maxilla.
i do have forward head posture to make my face look better but I know it’s counter intuitive:p
thank you for the advice

Since my arch is so high will curling my tongue into it eventually carve out a larger space? I know if my palate was a bit wider I would be seeing faster progress

Is that true?
Hi Colette!
I just want to comment that its hard to tell things from photos, but you have a glow about you! I'm sure it is from character on the inside coming forward too. My best friend and I were just talking last night how outer beauty can be fleeting, but there is something about the spirit of a person as we grow, overcome, and keep fighting for what matters.
That being said, I understand your concerns and experience some similar realities as you expressed above. And it's important too! I was curious if you have any swallowing or breathing issues from what you explained is going on. Do you feel like you have enough room for your tongue? Do you feel like your mandible is swung down and back leaving your mouth with less support?
Have you ever heard of Myofunctional Therapy? You probably have, but Sarah Hornsby seems like a great resource. She knows about "mewing" too.
I am new to all this but have been researching and working on it for a few months. I wish well on your journey, and that you find more answers to help.
Blessings,
Ellie Mae

In my experience chewing has not been beneficial. I got thicker masseters and bulkier face as a result. Maybe I was chewing wrong, I don't know. But thick masseters do not make a nice jawline. They are rounded, since muscle is never jagged like bone. I was also on LGD SARM cycle, so my hypertrophy was even more accented. It does nothing for undereye area and development of rest of your face. Some jaw muscle is good, but I don't see a point of having it overdeveloped. BONES are everything.
30 yo, need to expand palate, move maxilla upward and forward, reduce gonial angle.

Hey!!
I really appreciate your comments! What a warm thing to say and you glow through the way you communicate :)
yes, I do experience breathing issues and always have. It’s getting better as I keep my tongue on the spot and my mouth closed though I can’t breathe when I’m mewing yet.
Also, there is not a lot of space for the front of my tongue and my arch is very high.
i have actually worked with Sarah!! She’s very nice and we worked together for six months. Her work helped change the musculature of my face, but I regressed through lack of practice and will pursue mewing for a skeletal change :)
thank you for your comment.
what is your experience right now?
