Hey guys,

I have known about mewing since I was 15, however I was never able to get used to it,

as it was very hard for me to do, because I have been mouth breathing while sleeping for

a long time of my childhood. Due to that I have a strong overbite and very recessed chin. I had braces during the age of 13-16, but now I am only wearing fixed retainers on my bottom 6 teeth.

The thing is that I have been jutting my lower jaw forward for years, which does help my profile view a lot, because if i bite my back teeth together my lower jaw is even more recessed and it just looks like a bird tbh. Thats why my front teeth slighty touch, however my back teeth do not due to strong overbite.

My questions:

1) Do you think the fixed retainers behind my bottom 6 lower teeth hinder the mewing process?

2) Did anybody else looked kinda worse while mewing, because when I am, the fat around the hyoid bone kinda gets pushed out which does not look good, so will this get away or how do i avoid it?

3) Do you think it's a problem to be kinda jutting (overbite: front teeth slighty touching each other, back teeth do not/bottom teeth pushed slighty more forward than) and mewing at the same time?

4) Is there anything else besides proper tongue position/swallowing to bring my lower jaw/mandible forward? I have already tried face pulling with a belt and hand good results (lower jaw went slightly forward) with it but they mostly only lasted for 1-2 days and the effort was quite hard (~30x30seconds forward/upward belt pulling a day)

Thank you for who ever took their time to read this!

I am very happy to see that the discussions around "mewing" have developed into a bigger audience,

as I remember it being quite unpopular some years back.

You're probably mewing wrong, say gnis and keep your tongue tensed up in the way it tenses up when you say that word at every letter. Measure your IMW, measure it 2 weeks later if it doesn't change you're not mewing properly.

Your hyoid bone is supposed to go up and your lower chin should look very slightly better during mewing.
