Anyone else got a tiny head?

I'm not a super skinny gal, but rather slim, hour-glass figured. However, my head is so disproprotionatley narrow that it morphs into my neck, making me look like a pin head. My hips and shoulders look too wide, and looking into full length mirrors makes me depressed.

I wasn't diagnosed with microcephaly during infancy, but I feel like my face is so shrunken now (whilst the rest of my body is fairly strong) that it looks like my small head is on the wrong body.  However, I've seen photos of me at around 14 years old, (many moons ago) just after having my braces off, and my face still looks better then than it does now.  No doubt,  the facial damage they can cause, can manifest over the passage of time...

I'm drinking goat's milk for the calcium, (after being dairy-free for many years) but, it's unlikely to work miracles.  I'll probably have to diet and get really skinny in order to look more proportionate.  Not even sure who to seek help from, anymore=(

What is your intermolar width?

Hi Apollo, thanks for your reply.  My maxillary intermolar width is approx. 25mm.

I've not yet had a tongue tie release which I believe I probably need, and myofunctional therapists are few and far between in my country, as it's not really taken off here.

Also, dietary oxalates can bind to your calcium apparently, so I plan to reduce my consumption of these, as well.

If that is accurate, you do have a very narrow palate, and probably won't be able to fit your tongue on the roof of your mouth even after frenectomy. In your situation, I would seek out a functional orthodontist for a palate expansion device.

Not gonna lie palate expansion has made my head look "bigger" off the fact my face is wider. Sometimes many times if your cheekbones are weak and face narrow your skull can look very unimposing.

That said as a female this is less worrisome but I get it.

Thanks for your replies.  I'm hoping to schedule an orthodontic appointment soon as, like you say, I probably need expansion before a frenectomy.  Come to think of it, my tongue is always between my teeth through lack of space...

I think you could proceed with the tongue tie release before you start with the palate expander, it's just that you probably still won't be able to get your tongue into the correct position until you have more space. Still it would probably be helpful to have better range of motion with your tongue during the expansion so that you can practice better posture and swallowing and it can help prevent relapse during hours without the removable appliance.

Hi Plain,

Do you have a class 3 malocclusion (when the lower teeth come out in front)?  It would be very common with an intermolar width range near yours.  I advise you get palate expansion and that you practice proper oral posture after you gain an intermolar width which would make it easier (37mm+).
