I need to buy a palate expansion device are there any options which do not require orthodontic oversight i.e are self administered/adjustable devices?
@mewer000 If you want to know my favorite generic-use appliance... it is this guy (from orthotech.net). Rick, the owner, has a heart of gold.
/community/community/main-forum/lab-visit-with-pictures/ Top device with cresent from wax for palate to reshape to.. and/or...buildup of acrylic above turn-key. Then for forward movement, you can add springs... but for forward remodeling of palate (similar to AGGA).. see about a Y-split. I personally like the two screws in series as it allows for control of cheekbone prominence and facial aesthetic control (including width of nose). You will see what I mean when using it. Teeth come last in my book. Face, Baby!
If you need to move forward the chin, acrylic over molars can do that. You’ll definitely want someone watching your TMJ in that case.
I have learned a lot looking at popular lab offerings. I do like the DNA wireframe... I hear it’s prone to break... it can be ordered from a lab. Get a couple!
For adults it doesn’t matter as much to get backups. For kids, it is a huge endangerment to get removeable expanders. If you go that route, compliance must be impeccable during expansion then hold with TPA or something else. ALWAYS have backups. It is asking for damage / trouble getting removeables in kids. Never do it, in my experience.
DNA wireframe, same as DNA appliance by vivos ?
