I watched just this

and them talking about root resorption at the start has really made me consider getting my fixed retainer (on top and bottom 6 teeth) removed. I had Invisalign and honestly my teeth weren't that bad before - only one really needed a bit of movement so I would be more than happy with a slight relapse if it significantly reduces my changes of having to deal with root resorption. Hopefully this is a condition only really reserved for people who've had more extreme orthodontics as they say but yeah. Anyone got any experience with this topic?
So root resorption happens if you wearetainers?... I didn’t quite get it.
Yeah it's not entirely clear, I gathered from it that wearing a fixed wire retainer (one glued to the back of your teeth) can make you more likely to suffer root resorption later on in life because you're kind of bolting the teeth in an unnatural position for so long.
I think it's because the teeth want to move but they can't, so basically the teeth are constantly under stress when wearing orthodontic retainers.
@sinned but before mike mew has said if you let go of your retainers your teeth shouldn’t relapse and shouldn’t move at all if you have good posture.... isn’t that basically saying they are already in their natural position?
If you get rid of retainers you will relapse most likely, unless you get significant enough expansion that gives the teeth room, but orthodontists put retainers on precisely because there isn't enough room for the teeth and they will shift back. If you take Mike Mew's mewing advice you most definitely will not expand enough to give room for the incisors, hardmewing is the only way to get expansion for an adult, suction hold is the natural tongue posture but it won't grow your maxilla.
