Hi

I was wondering if the main idea is so swallow from as far back in the throat as possible, and to put as little force as possible onto the front of the palate, the part right behind the front teeth before it curves up steeply? If you put force on this front area and not enough in the back wouldn't the maxilla like rotate backwards or something, is that possible?

I try to use the most rear part of my tongue, and try to get that to push up and forwards against the part where my palate curves up so it forms like a wall that I can push against. Chin tucking really helps with form too.  I don't try to put any pressure on the front part of my palate, the part just behind the front teeth with the weird wrinkly bumps.  This is correct, isn't it?

Is it possible to mew so wrong that you actually cause recession, or no, if you put even a little bit amount of thought into it like I do?  I've probably been mewing for about less than a year, but before that I didn't mouthbreath, I just have a weird situation with my teeth where my tongue seems to want to rest itself against the two top incisors, this position actually feels the most natural to me, even when mewing.  When I do this, I can more easily get pressure against the rear of my palate, both when resting and especially when swallowing.  The only problem with this position is that it makes it hard to completely flatten my tongue on the whole palate, because I usually have to wiggle my tongue and press it a little bit to slip it between the teeth.  I used to keep my molars together (not clenched, just together), but realized that this just doesn't work for me, since to do that I have to pull my lower jaw back and it feels completely wrong (I made a thread about it before).  Now I relax my jaw and let my top and bottom incisors line up and keep freeway space between them, which feels much more natural.

I don't really hardmew, but I do make sure to use a lot of force when swallowing, which probably doesn't qualify.

I'm just paranoid now about causing recession, but I think the changes may be due to extreme stress and becoming unfit.  The thing is I never paid attention to my cheekbones or any growth level before all that happened so I can't draw any conclusions from it.  But I do look different regardless.  But the question is whether it was mewing or my health (again I'm guessing it wasn't mewing considering it was such a short time).  If someone is really curious maybe I can provide pictures, but not for a short while.

Thanks everyone

EDIT:  28 year old male

Obviously, if you think you are mewing by doing the exact opposite thing you will.

Like what?  So the way I described would at the very worst not do anything right?  The opposite of mewing is mouth breathing, I never do that.  I'm still pushing up and forwards.

Title should really be if mewing the way I am can cause recession not if it's possible in general

Mewing wrong will probably mess up your face AND you airways. Probably some other things too.

Thanks, but like in my case, does the way I described doing it sound more or less alright?  I'm just wondering if the way I described is anywhere near the level required to cause problems.

Every time I swallow I DO push up/forwards, and just to see I tried to not do that but it wasn't possible, any way I swallow I push up and forwards, which makes me think I probably didn't mew too wrong no matter what I did.  So as long as there's force going up/forwards I assume I didn't cause myself recession?

Also I'm 28
