Hello,

I am fairly new to this site and my daughter is 8 and we are trying to get her into the BioBloc and we have to drive 3.5 hours to get to the dentist that offers this. But when we were there  the appliance  didn't fit. It didn't fit in between her molars. The people who made the biobloc cut into her mold to make the appliance fit. That seems crazy to me it that was what they thought we were going to do that with my childs teeth. I am afraid that the next one they get in ( because we redid the mold and she is going to send it back to get a new one that hopefully we won't have to drill a space for it to fit between her teeth). Is this normal? To drill part of the teeth out so it will stay and fit? Thank you.

My understanding is that appliances like biobloc are meant to fit passively. They usually add 'spacers' to move the teeth enough in preparation for palatal expanders and similar appliances. Not sure about biobloc. The concept of biobloc is to avoid invasive treatment, so the idea of cutting enamel to undergo therapy seems quite wrong. Honestly, I think I'd look the denetist straight in the face and ask 'Um, what is this?'. Certainly worth demanding an explanation from the lab tech who made that appliance.

I don't know the specifics of your daughter's case, as these were not shared.  I have seen protrusion overdone for the sake of airway in girls to ill effect.

Thank you LastQuestion , that is exactly what I thought about it. No way was I going to let them cut her teeth. Glad to hear I am not crazy.
