Hey all, my first post. I've been mewing for about a year now, but more focusing on just correct oral posture and function. This has been made almost impossible for me though because, bear with me, I just don't know how to suck. For a while I thought I had it, but later realized I was basically using my lungs to suck ON my tongue over the course of 3 or 4 months which completely messed up my body in so many ways. I have so much anxiety being in public because of how odd I appear from my mix of features and I got a lot more issues from just not knowing how to suck, I can't even begin to express how much this has messed up my life. At this point i could care less about mewing and just want to feel comfortable in my mouth. So with that, from a super fundamental perspective, how are you supposed to suck?? If possible could this be explained as though someone is just waking up, so from relatively relaxed tongue to tensed up sucking hard. Thank you so much in advance
Thanks so much for sharing. How did this affect your face or what-not?
I can best describe it as my face overall getting shorter, more compact and appearing more toned. My nose is more upturned, forehead had become more curved and broad from transverse perspective. My eyes aren't so "blaring" anymore lol. My face is wider from the lips up but my jaw hasn't changed much at all and I feel it's from improper suction. Not that aesthetics are really my focus, but I've read on the importance of a wider jaw for balanced breathing. It seems sinuses can be opened to heck, but if there's a restriction further down the system you won't be doing much help.
I dont understand what you did and how that affected your face.
You have anxiety because you sucked on your tongue with your lungs....what?
Yeah, I know it sounds pretty stupid lol. I just extrapolated a general constant suction from how I sucked when drinking through a straw, which was by sort of using my lungs to suck the liquid up.
When made into a constant function though, at least for me, it resulted in constantly sucking on my tongue. I looked it up after a while and apparently it's some kind of comforting method little kids use, because honestly it does feel pretty good but it's noted that it is in fact a very bad behavior that should be stopped. Keep in mind this was no behavior for me, I did it constantly, wake up to fall asleep.
As for anxiety, I realized using air pressure to suck on your tongue affects the ability to breath in and makes it more difficult, which is probably the reason. It also disabled me from properly using the underside of my tongue to hit the spot which could be another cause. In any case, this whole dilemma just made me aware of the importance of suction and how strengthening the suction is probably the pivotal ingredient in all of this. It should be noted that in general there are vastly more individuals with a pronounced, wide jawline (where suction muscles are) and lacking crazy protruding cheekbones and all than individuals with both or just cheekbones. And not to make this some kind of lookism.net post, but I implore you to find one person with naturally good development who has a narrow recessed jaw and the protruding cheekbones and all. Maybe the jaw isn't wide af like hands on a busted clock, but narrow by no means. In my view, suction and filling the cavity as precisely (touching all teeth at gum line) and completely (minimization of empty space) is the end all and be all of good oral posture. I feel everything else, from swallowing to speaking while maintaining a toned submental region feels natural once these two things are accomplished, the former massively helping and enabling the latter. So does anyone have suction advice? My b, 4 beers in and feeling frustrated, can't tell how much of this is a time thing and how much is me doing things wrong
I still dont understand your problem.
Yes, the "suction hold" is a effective way to keep good oral posture. I do the suction hold every second of the day. You are saying thats what you've been doing the entire time. You also say its a good thing.
But then you also say you need advice on it, even though you are already doing it all the time?
Sorry if im just too low IQ to understand you, but you are contradicting yourself several times so im hella confused.
I kinda doubt you are holding the suction hold with your lung. If i do that, my entire toungue gets sucked up into my airway and i cant breath anymore.
I initiate the suction hold by doing a small swallowing movement and just holding it there instead of letting it go.
Can i ask how old you are?
I described it poorly, I would never put myself in a position where I couldnt breath. But my tongue essentially was held using the longues and air pressure rather than jaw and tongue musclulature.
In the past couple days, it's seemed to me that with regards to <em>powering</em> suction, the jaw is the key. It's appears to me that the tongue merely holds a good seal and that's all. If you have to ask how old I am to have realized that, u might as well have asked the same question to a 60 year old man. Bc I see people all the time that are struggling with this.

Sorry for the late response. "But my tongue essentially was held using the longues and air pressure rather than jaw and tongue musclulature. "
You are right, if you only do the suction hold, its merely the suction thats keeping the tongue on the roof of the mouth. If you keep a correct head posture and your jaw is closed (teeth lightly touching each other), you will automatically apply forces to your upper palate, even with the suction hold.
Dont stress it too much. Put your tongue on the roof of the mouth, keep your jaw closed and have corret body/head posture.
