I've always been able to swallow those big magnesium tablets but ever since I started really engaging my posterior third of the tongue, it's becoming harder and harder to swallow them. Tonight I choked because the damn tablet got stuck in the base of my throat lol. I'm curious if the constant engagement is causing the muscles in the throat to not relax properly during a swallow? Or maybe I'm not longer swallowing properly.
I've had the exact same problem. Ever since mewing, but more importantly, since being aware of a proper tongue swallow, bigger pills occasionally get stuck half way. Especially those pills with a rougher surface.
Using lots of water helps, essentially flooding your mouth and washing down the pill without too much swallowing effort. Sometimes I simply revert back to old swallow patterns if I really can't get it down.
Yeah, it is difficult to take pills with a rough texture (like my magnesium) using correct swallowing form. You just end up pressing the pill against the palate with the tongue and the friction holds it in place causing an unpleasant sensation. To avoid this, I put all of the pills that I am taking in my mouth, sip some water, then tilt my head back so that gravity takes the pills to the back of my tongue, then I can return my head to a neutral position and perform a good push swallow.
This happened to me as well
I tried to swallow a magnesium pill the nature made one. Almost died enlodged in my throat, called for help by yelling, simultaneously I found out that saliva stops making bubbles around the pill, then I remember a Queen song to go out easier that reminds me of Freddie Mercury then that reminds me of his vocal improvisation and I kept doing that until it went down.
mfw Freddie mercury saved my life
mfw I almost died from a smelly pill (yes it matters if it smells)
