Cats, dogs, whales, etc., do they mew?

Cats meow, cows moo, whales use ginormous palatal expanders. I just now signed up to give you high quality comments like this. 😏

ah, you beat me to it, I was about to tell him I asked my cats, and they both said "mewo".

On a serious note, no they don't, they just do their natural thing until humans disrupt their natural habits, such is the case in house cats and dogs.

By mewing I'm referring to tongue posture, do animals not press their tongue on the roof of the mouth?

Well considering my cats only say "Meow and Mewo" it's impossible to get an answer, but I bet you they do have some tongue posture that is specific to their type. I think if you look at animals you will notice many of them keep their mouths open whereas cats don't. Maybe the face shape correlates with tongue posture, but I doubt we will ever know until very tiny cameras or sensors, possible to insert into the oral cavity, become readily available.
