Hello everyone
I was wondering if anyone has any experience elongating their alveolar bone.
I think I remember EddieMoney saying that his molars have come down and he doesn't have his molars in contact. So will the teeth come down on their own as long there is free space, either by elongation of the alveolar bone or by the teeth coming out of their sockets?
For those wondering why I'm asking; this would be very useful for my deep bite.
Maybe a contraption such as this would speed up the process
@azrael Also had braces and can confirm this also happened to me.

Yeah, and the worst part is that my orthodontist (apparently one of the best in the country) didn't even think it was an issue to begin with (she was only concerned with fixing my overbite).
It was only after I asked her about a possible solution for my gummy smile (which I thought was caused by something else) that she explained that it was caused by the elastics and decided to finally remove them. I was past the point of no return as I had worn them for a year by then and the damage was done. Made me lose all faith in orthodontics that day.
@azrael @ladida Yeah. Lots of "experts" don't know what they are doing. Can you guys tell me what age you were during this? Were you adults?
Was all of the alveolar bone dragged down or was it just the direct area and the area in proximity to the elastics?
I was thinking of having the elastics be put on my molars since my deep bite is caused by my tongue laterally thrusting in between my molars. My incisors are probably in the correct position since I don't have a gummy smile and my lower anterior facial height is 50% of my total facial height at rest which sounds about right.
Half the time it's just self mutilation, like Chinese foot binding.

I can't recall the exact age but probably somewhere in my late teens (17-20).
I had a small gummy smile (2-3mm) before elastics and after them it was like a 10-12mm severe gummy smile. Don't know how much of the alveolar process came down, though. I saw videos on youtube showing how it happens with elastics.
I can't say how it affects the molars if the elastics are positioned there, since I've had no experience with such a procedure. I'd suggest you to do plenty of research first though, before going ahead with similar orthodontic practices.
@Vyr9
I was around 15 or 16. Had crowded teeth and my incisors were way up. Looked like a right vampire.

I really don't remember in specific detail, but I had to change the elastic position a few times. First, it was from my incisors to the lower teeth ( I remember I had to form a triangle shape with them) and then I hooked them to the back of my lower teeth. I did not get extractions but he definitely retracted my front teeth.
I am supposed to get TAD's to diminish my gummy smile this year, so maybe the whole dental arc will lift or just the alveolar bone I'm not sure.
Well thanks for the answers eveyrone. At least it seems possible.
I'll update the post if there are any important news.
