Hi,

I've been lurking here for quiet some time because I find this site verry helpful, but I didn't think I had enough knowledge on this subject to give you guys ground breaking information. But now I decided to make an account because I have some questions myself, and I'm famillair with mewing for 2 years so I do have some knowledge even tough it's not ground breaking or something like that.

Now my question. My problem with mewing is that I find it impossible to constantly keep the pressure with my tongue on the roof of my mouth. I can't keep presure for more than 1 minute consecutively. I can keep my tongue on the roof for the whole day but that is without pressure. How do I keep my tongue engaged for the whole day?  Has it simply to do with the strength of my tongue?

Btw since I Sarted mewing 2 years ago my tongue has become a lot bigger, so it isn't the case that my tongue isn't used to working out at all.

I hope I am clear enoug;)

You don't need a lot of pressure to achieve results. Only 1 gram of total force is needed to influence growth.

If you wanna build up tongue/jaw strength I'd recommend buying Falim gum from ebay.

Start off by applying a small amount of pressure and then over time your overall tongue/facial musculature will become stronger.

Along with the general concept of Wolff's Law, there is an idea in musculoskeletal medicine that "form follows function." The more you stress your tongue , which in turn forces the masseters to be stressed, these muscles will increase in strength and a change in the skeletal form follows.

Anyway to keep a long story short, applying massive amount of force over short periods is counterproductive. Keep a moderately strong pressure at all times - moderate enough that it can be sustained essentially indefinitely, and over time everything will strengthen.

Oke thanks guys. Apparently it's just a process  of strenghtening te muscles.

The only thing I don't completly understand is the quote below. Could you please explain that further? I don't understand why massive amount of force for short period of time counterproductive is.

The process of bone remodelling is a slow process, and the body starts this process in response to a percieved constant pressure. If the body senses  "hm I feel this constant pressure in this spot all the time, I should adapt to this pressure, as its clearly just a normal thing now and its best to encorporate it."

If bones reacted to large amount of pressures in short bursts, you would have massive bumps of bone everytime you hit your elbow or fall down (assuming it doesn't break)

It's counterproductive because you waste energy and a lot of effort into something that yields worse results, if any.
