Would I be able to safely apply 8-10 lbs (4-5 kgs) of force to the maxilla?
It seems dangerous, how will you pull your face?
With an extra oral appliance. I will only be using that force for 12 hrs a day.
Can you explain more on what method you are using to achieve this.
I will be using a modified version of the headgear found on facepulling.com, with a similar mouthpiece but different mechanism for pulling force.
There is no good evidence for your own case that even 1lb of forward pull on your Maxilla for 12 hours per day is safe for your situation.
Let alone 10lbs.
There are 2 ways to adjust the body safely:
1. Quick, swift and hard force causing an immediate adjustment
2. Slow, gentle and soft force stimulating long term adjustments
There is one sure-fire way to way to injure the body:
3. Pounds of heavy force on sensitive areas left for 12+ hours
Combine 1 and 2. Do not attempt 3. Gentle force. Long time. Increase increments of force in grams and with time frames of many months.
If anything, the larger amount of forces used by some face-pulling methods is likely something that shows quicker results because the larger force got enough movement at the sutures to have the skull stimulated into growth and change. Those users who have had experience with any maxillary protraction device like your face-pulling idea have said largely confirmed that less than 1 hour per day can achieve optimal results without the body beginning to resist the pressure.
Large forces being applied on the body, when necessary, are always performed as adjustments that all occur in a single swift motion. Think of chiropractic work, lots of force and an instant movement. Practitioners of "Cranial adjustment" do this sort of chiropractic work on the skull. Endonasal practitioners are also in this practice. And some people have mimicked it unknowingly by applying large force anchored outside the skull. Nowhere should you see someone literate in the human body attempting to change it by attaching a 10lb weight somewhere and leaving it for 12 hours.
Putting your thumbs in your mouth and pulling forward will apply pounds of force. Short and rapid force is only to be done for short periods of time, as they can help adjust bone into a position for re-modeling.
To remodel, slow and steady low levels of force. Nobody has a maxilla which responds well to a pounds of force, and we all have maxillas which respond well to light force over time.
Do not fall into the rabbit hole of looking for an external device to deliver rapid results. The body is not a rapid mechanism, healthy growth happens only over many months. Rapid growth caused by an external mechanism work against the body, not with it. Your body already comes fully equipped to handle the current situation, if you learn to use it the results will occur at the optimal pace.
You probably really shouldn't do more than a pound of pressure anywhere on your face man. What if something breaks?
Yeah sorry guys, that was quite idiotic of me. It is completely irrational to apply those amounts of force. I lifted a 1 kg weight and realized how truly heavy it is and how dangerous it could be.
