Haha sounds fun being cited in a book.
Still can't share my chewing gum experience since I started not long ago.
But, I can say what does NOT chewing do.
I had complex TMJs problems - on both side - with luxations, headaches, tinnitus, so much pain, sometimes even enable to speak, and unable to chew tough food for 2-3 years. The right side of my jaw was the more painful one and tinnitus would explose anytime I chew on this side.
Unfortunately, it happened right during my puberty and my face growth. I end up with a face lengthened, weird proportions, I lost at least a couple points /10 on the "beauty scale". Went from a good looking "kinda" compact face to a elongated, thin face and my nose now seem "too big" for my face, my down lip became too big, eyes have "fell" (negative canthal tilt I didn't have before). My right side of the face is way more melted than my left side (remember, my right jaw side was more painful - thus without noticing i chewed on my left side)
Hopefully I have met a dentist with Mewing-like knowledge, and I was able to reverse some of the degenerescence. She asked me not long ago to chew more tough food, and here begins my journey.
If you had braces and chewed on the hard foods you're able to would that counteract CFD completely or would you still get it, but at a lesser degree.
This was so interesting and it filled some gaps for me. Great post 👍
