First, a bit about myself. I.m a 42 yr old male, married with a kid. I have been active in heavy weights lifting and cardio/sports/outdoors for about 12 years solid. Stronger than I was 10 years and possibly faster. Played sports in high school was very active until around 26 yrs of age. Fast forward a few years, had an injury, became addicted to painkillers and spiraled for several years after. I became very out of shape. Ate horribly, wasn't very active. My posture was terrible. I start noticing changes in my face. Frown lines, drooping cheeks, weak eyes etc. I eventually developed other issues. Sleep apnea, sinusitis, teeth became more crooked. Also, had tooth many teeth so not sure if that was contributor to the crooked teeth or not but happened all at the same teeth. It's worth nothing that I never had allergies before all this time period. I kicked the addiction, cleaned up my diet, became active again and hit the weights and have been doing it ever since. I  never had a problem attracting females or anything like that. Even at my worst I still always had compliments about my looks. I am not sure why, as I see that my face became somewhat asymmetrical over time. I believe that it would have been much worse if I wouldn't have turned it around. I came to mewing by researching sleep apnea as I still had that problem and sinus issues. As I continued to research I did even identify some aesthetic issues as well. Although, my face is overall well defined and I would say chiseled in most areas, frown lines had become worse. Started noticing some chin recession. Face becoming longer. Even though my diet is good, physically strong and overall healthy,  had those noticeable aesthetic issues and still the sleep apnea, very loud snorer (since the addiction problem) and that my tongue rested at the bottom of my mouth, sinus issues and some fatigue. I never noticed that for the past several years that I was mouth breather until now.

Now that I have gave you a an overview of myself, on to my recent mewing experience. 3 weeks and so far good.

1) Very noticeable difference in my jaw. I am a bit of a carnivore, have always loved meat even as a small child. Have always had large jaws but definitely recessed in last few years, chin not as prominent. I can only imagine if I had stayed on the same path  for the last 12 years what kind of shape I would be in. I attribute weight lifting and physical activity to slowing of these issues. I would probably be a mess if I am still having all of these problems.

2) Frown lines almost completely dissipated. I have been completely shocked by this. It started happening in a little over a week.

3) Bigger lips. Is this normal? I have to say that I am not mad about it. My jaws seems to have expanded and it fits the look of my face. Weird.

4) Nose straighter. Also I was noticing a slight crook in my nose. No longer.

5) Also had chronically swollen adenoids for many years. Always wondered why. Now within 3 weeks, no more swelling. In fact, I started noticing sinus drainage in day 2 two of mewing. Fast forward 3 weeks, barely any sinus issues. Still there, but much much better. Breathing through nose has improved drastically already. I am not sure how long it's been since I have been able to breathe that well as I never thought of my issues stemming from tongue posture/mouth breathing. Astonished.

6) My foreheard is became very chiseled looking. I am not sure what that's about but I like it.

7 ) Sagging jowls gone. I had noticed this beginning to happen. It wasn't too bad but noticed it beginning. No more, gone.

8) I had these creased behind my ears that also began to form and also small lump behind my ear from whatever was going on there. Gone.

There are probably more things I have noticed but that is a few. Even as a primarily lifelong athlete/outdoors man, I have never experienced anything that works as fast for health and aesthetic benefits than this. Let me tell you guys something, I didn't even do this completely right and I still don't think I am 100%. I also probably have a high-arched palate and struggle to get my tongue to stay on the back the soft palate. Which leads me to the last part which is to address the problems these issues and try to nail it down to be completely right.

1) I attached a rough sketch of what my palate is like in Capture1. I am not sure if this is normal but it seems to me that the ridge behind my teeth is unusually long and arch is unusually high. Where should my tongue be #1, #2, or #3? Would #2 or #3 not be better if your ridge is longer?

2) I have read contrasting things about teeth placement. Some say top and bottom teeth should n=meet and I have read where some say molars should rest on each other. From my molars to the incisors they rest on each other perfectly. My canine and lateral incisor teeth rest slightly in front of my bottom teeth and finally, where things get tricky, is the two central incisors have a gap of 3/8 of inch sticking forward bottom teeth. At first, I was actually moving my bottom jaw forward to have central incisors line up with top ones making the rest of my teeth rest slightly further from forward from the top teeth with the exception of incisors. Which is the correct method?

Thanks in advance. I have just discovered this forum and already have learned a ton.

@elky Wow!  What am amazing response!  That is really cool.  I wonder if it helps that you’re simultaneously exercising?  I would think so.  Be careful about how some say to chew a lot.  You don’t want to as this can drive your face shorter and give you jowels.  Take this from a middle-age 👩!  As we age we usually get deep bites.  As for where to put your tongue, it doesn’t matter so much, unless your are noticing it being bad.  However, that was more from open-mouthed breathing from lack of enough oxygen through nose from lack of enough oxygen to fuel needy mitochondria.  LOL  So, your story has been really inspiring.  Teeth slightly apart is the usual or lightly touching...I can’t remember. But I actually remember now.  Before I got into Mewing, my face was highly stable.  I rested with teeth slightly apart and that was my equilibrium normal.  I’m not going to say what’s right or wrong, except NEVER clench if you can avoid it.  As for the right spot...I feel with my tongue where I pay attention to my mood.  I learned this from a Myofunctional therapist that I paid.  He said the spot is determined on where you feel happy.  I have found it in front of my lower teeth at times...up in the forward portion at times.  Back a bit at times and even just on one side at times.  I usually go off feelings now and my face is looking better for it.  😜

I usually don’t and try not to pay attention to tongue rest posture.  There are several reasons for this...stress of thinking about it.  It moves around (the right spot).  I used to wake up in the middle of the night with my tongue pushing against my palate and I couldn’t stop it.  I feel strongly that a few exercises now and again will dramatically over time create responses in that way anyway.  So occasionally I’ll pay attention & lightly apply pressure, but not often.  Also, lastly, for a personal reason...my bones are super moveable so I try not to mess with them much. :-)
