How does mewing really work?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I looked at the last 3 pages of this forum but every thread seems too specific.

From what I have researched, mewing is the pushing of the palatine bone of the skull by the tongue, which moves the maxilla upwards.

This has two effects (from what I know):

1. It increases the size of the masseter muscle.
2. It pushes the zygomatic arch forwards, away from the skull.

But I don’t understand how the cause causes the effect.

How does pushing the palatine bone, which pushes the maxilla upwards, cause the above two effects I mentioned (and any other effects I may have missed)?
