Mewing isn't working for me—I'm probably too old for it.
However, fixing my chewing and swallowing techniques has given me very hollow cheeks, and nose breathing has generally helped reduce the "mouth breather" look.
My main issues are my long, crooked nose, downturned eyes, and elongated face. These are all symptoms of a downswung face. I think I have decent forward growth, but it has developed downward due to poor habits. When I was younger, I had minimal eyelid exposure and a somewhat compact face with a straight nose, but during puberty, I became a severe mouth breather. I was also heavily involved in sports, so I did little to no nose breathing. Recently, I've started ensuring my teeth are touching, as Mike Mew has suggested. He believes the tongue is for expansion, and teeth touching helps with the upswing, but this could take a long time to show results—assuming it works for me at all.
As a last resort, I'm considering chewing tough gum, as it's known to accelerate the upswing. I've seen many people make significant progress through chewing alone, with some even giving up on mewing and still seeing great results. Could this help me?
Hey, I'm not here to advertise anything, I actually just registered to ask for my case. My case is very similar to yours.
There is a cheap course by two Russian ladies, they teach intra-oral facepulling techniques based on osteopathic principles. I've seen amazing results in some people who practice this. They get the desired upswing, widen the face, shorten the middle third. They even improve or fix facial asymmetries. The problem fore me is that there is a requirement that one has all teeth in their mouth. You gen get away if you have some implants or if only one tooth is missing. Unfortunately this is probably a no-go for me, I have a lot of bridges so I'm not sure if I qualify or not.
In other topic here I read that the back third of the tongue can turn the maxilla in the wrong direction - clockwise. I think this is at least part of what I'm experiencing.
Good luck in your journey!
