I'd like to point out to everyone: Virtually all dentists/orthodontists/medical professionals offer free initial consultations.
More importantly, initial consultations for braces or the corrections of under/overbites will often include both X-rays and professional dental+facial photographs.
Go in and tell them that you've finally decided to try and get everything fixed up. Get whatever exams they offer you, hear their prescribed treatment plan/advice, and call back a few weeks later to request your records.
There's dozens of clinics in every city, someone willing to drive around is literally sitting on a reserve of 50+ free medical exams and records.
I've got a full set of x-rays and facial/dental photography from my free consultation a few years ago. I've also had two professional examinations of my mouth done by separate doctors so far during this process to make sure that my teeth were all remaining healthy and no problems were emerging anywhere (all clear). These were both free initial consultations
If there is nothing disingenuous why call back after three weeks or so, why not request the records right away?

You can do that if you wish. It just seems rude to do it right away, since they're trying to sell you the service. Kind of like shutting the door in the face of a salesman.
More polite to just call back later and ask the receptionist for your documents
