Just want to know
Distraction osteogenesis
The lower palate fuses as babies and the upper palate in puberty. I don't know much about the surgical side... obviously though, you want to keep the upper and lower jaws in alignment with eachother. I know TMJ issues can occur if not propotional, and I don't know what the treatments do to the condyle area. I would expect more concern for this with an older patient than a younger, whose bones are more maliable & responsive.
The upper palate does not fuse in the midline but it becomes much harder to separate.

I'm 35 and have had upper and lower ALFs for 2 years. Top width has increased by about 10 mm and bottom went right along for the ride.
However, my ALFs were out of my mouth for 6 weeks recently (long story) and when my dentist went to put them back in, the upper still fit perfectly but the lower no longer fit. So I lost some lower expansion in the space of just 6 weeks.

I never knew ALF could be used for that much expansion, that's really impressive. What was your final inter molar width? Were your lower teeth tipping out when the ALF was first removed?
