Hello! I have a quick question and wasn't able to find help online. I have class 1 alveolar bimaxillary protrusion that is a bit severe (aka molars/jaw is aligned but upper and bottom front teeth flare out). I also have gapping around my front teeth and canines. Luckily an orthodontist told me the flaring problem seems muscular in nature and there don't seem to be much improper jaw growth (have all 4 wisdom teeth intact and space behind them as well. palate width is 38mm). However he is advising tooth extractions (premolars) to correct the bimaxillary protrusion (front teeth flaring). I noticed that my tongue posture wasn't initially good. It naturally rests at bottom of mouth with tip of tongue pushing up behind upper front teeth. Actively correcting this though. Perhaps this is where the protrusion/flaring came from?

Will mewing, tongue chewing, and abs walk be enough to help me solve my issues? Is extractions needed in my case? Do I need any orthodontic intervention? I don't expect all these questions to be answered on the spot but if you can point me in any positive direction, I will be eternally grateful. Thank you!

Since your doctor identified the cause to be your tongue posture and indeed it does seem so from the pictures, it doesn't make any sense that he wants to extract any teeth. Unless there is another reason, he probably doesn't know what he is talking about.

I suggest you work on correcting your tongue position. In the process your teeth might correct on their own. I see plenty of space around for them to be tucked in a little. In case they don't you could always get clear aligners to reduce their angulation.

Ask him about this idea and see what he says, as there might be something else, because extraction sound pretty extreme for your case.

Hey! So he never discussed my tongue posture. This is what it seems to be the case to me since I did have bad tongue posture (though I should verify this is indeed the root cause with a myofunctional therapist). He just told me that the protrusion seems to be the result of my musculature as opposed to my bones.

This is a good idea.
