Mew has released two videos in the past that address the use and effects of retainer use.
Most of the conversation has been about upper retainers -- the merits of them, or the decision tree on what to do about upper retainers.
He even speaks about advocating switching from removable retainers to getting fixed retainers instead (in context)

However, no words that address whether or not to keep a lower retainer. Not exactly. He keeps himself safe

Yes, I have one.  I'm deciding whether or not to have it removed.
Anyone have experience, perspective, or an opinion on this? Anecdotes, or anything?

Show me what you got.

... If you want to use this space to talk about upper retainers -- that is fine too

I had a lower retainer for about ten years after my braces ordeal - but one day it popped out! I think my face got more asymmetrical at the time because I wasn’t mewing, but now lately my teeth and jaw ante shifting and aching - so it seems that without mewing things can get a bit worse

What I think- if you are making good progress in oral and body posture then remove the retainers, otherwise keep them on. Retainers will impede progress but also stop regress as well. It's up to the person's judgement on whether or not they are mewing enough to counteract the forces pushing the lower and upper arch in on itself. However, if you needed correction for your lower front teeth then they will certainly start to become crooked again as your progress in mewing isn't fast enough in making a change to create enough space for the lower arch, therefore causing crowding. However, this will eventually resolve itself if you keep making progress in mewing. It's not about just expanding the arches but getting forward and upward growth as well

I think though that expanding the arches is the most important factor in fixing crooked teeth and that forward and upward growth will just allow space for the wisdom teeth.
