This article claims that the philtrum elongates in adults going trough myofunctional therapy?
A 5.4mm increase in philtrum length is huge. I didn't read the thing thoroughly to figure out what was going on but it suggests that the increase was from "mechanical stretching exercises" included in the myofunctional therapy, and not merely tongue posture.
I mean when you think about it, the philtrum is just skin isn't it? And it gets longer naturally over time through sagging (mine has increased quite noticeably over the last 15 years and my top teeth are more hidden). The only other way it could be increased would be through stretching, either from some kind of mechanical action or over time through downward growth of the maxilla. There's nothing about mewing which would cause this.
Not sure but I would advise against mewing.
The pressure on the jaw causes bone change thst is not natural.

Why would it be unnatural or bad when it causes the right kind of development in children?

Mewing is just correct (natural) tongue posture and is harmless. It certainly won't produce any bone changes in adults.
I disagree. Bones change all the time. The amount of force placed on the bones may lead to bad effects.

This is how Mewing originated: 2:16 to end of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26KBKhaieSE
Basically, what then happened is they understood the value of keeping a home/place/room for the tongue.
Here's my opinion:
This provides very wonderful information. But if you watch/listen closely, the IMW for those who are not even paying attention to their tongue snowballed down or up, depending. There is a maintainable space where the pressure of the tongue and the pressure of the musculature of the face are in balance. That seems to be right around 39 mm ? This is where orthodontists generally place things today. So, basically, if you get orthodontics and your tongue has capacity to move into keeping the maxilla open, that is good.
Where things went a little haywire in my opinion is where people who can afford orthodontics and are good candidates for orthodontics are sold on using the tongue to APPLY pressure. Now... honestly, there may be some useful cases for that. I cannot say that, but there is a counterbalance for all pressure. I don't have anything against the Mews. I'm an admirer. Sometimss it takes getting a little sloppy to turn the dial. Some of the conclusions jumped to are faulty. For example... there was an attempt TO move the maxilla up with the tongue. Perhaps a better question is SHOULD this be done. There is precious cargo in the nasal area. Smashing that up can be damaging. There are many different variables to consider and when these concepts are distilled down to the lay public, then people are bound to self-diagnose and do not know all the variables. They latch onto one or two... an unproven hypothesis or 2 and then move along from there. This can actually impair someone's health. NOT recommended. Orthodontic evaluations are done uniquely and usually they are free. My own interste, though, aligns with Dr. Mike Mew's... how to help the society at large - specifically children. Glad he's asking the right questions!
the philtrum lenght is more determined by the orbicularis oris (upper lip muscle) than the teeth. people with short philtrums tend to have a more developed obicularis(more developed muscles rest in a more contracted state) try to flex it you will see the difference
Taping lips or forcing lips closed when eating will lengthen top and bottom. The philtrum typically drops about 1 mm every 10 years. You can speed this up through myofunctional therapy depending on how the therapy is done. If you're putting space, pressue, stuff like that between your front teeth and the lip (even momentarily) it can have a dramatic result. For example, just passing an air bubble around in an Audrey Yoon video... I noticed that the bubble didn't want to go right under my nose. I got it to go there anyway. DO NOT TRY THIS. I am regretful that I did, as my philtrum lengthened. I suppose if it would lengthen if I forced my lips to touch while eating. I am not a big believer in that. In fact, DNA with acrylic between teeth can cause this as well. You'll see this in some results where the "gummy" smile is eliminated. All they did is lengthen the philtrum by having people wear this stuff. If you pronounce b, m, p sounds.. your lips are touching. So, if you talk, you're touching lips. Check this:
She did DNA (source: https://marylandholisticdentist.com/dna-appliance/) and got stretched skin both ways.
Kids respond quickly, too, which is super scary!!!! LOOK AT THIS!!!!

It is TERRIFYING what is being pedaled to children's parents. We have orthodontics, people. Yes, you can arch widen with your tongue, and it's easier as a kid. However, to what effect?!?!?!?! These kids are going to be psychologically scarred, not just facially.
Fruits and veggies, people, cause more chewing, because it's less calories per chew. Our favorite foods are ones with higher calories per chew. Thats is why we have turkey necks & recessed mandibles, it seems, in part. Healthier foods > healthier face it seems. Like, literally, WHAT LEVEL OF INSANITY IS THERE FOR SOMEONE TO INFLICT THIS ON A CHILD! DR. MEW AND SANDRA KAHN MUST BE STOPPED.
